abaddon in 1k games?

Recommended Posts

2 cents here-

I wouldn't use Abaddon in any game less than 1.5k points... not worth it

plus if u do, ur going to be out numbered possibly 2-1 and abs isn't going to be a one man killing machine, he will be target number 1...

a low point cost lord or sorceror and more squads, leave abaddon and terminators at 1.5k mark and above

-My task is done!

Well, under 2nd ed, you couldn't do it but i wouldn't do it at this edition purely down to his cost. 275pts in a 1k list doesn't leave you with a lot left for troops etc. You'll probably get 2 squads, maybe of 10, probably without rhinos and an oblit with what you have left...

In my meagre experience with the new rules, unwise...

Unfit for small games. Though he can hold a bloodthirster on his own, if he was used wisely he could carry the game. Its just like a necron player taking a C'tan in 1k, just aim for the soft spot in the army. For you, focus fire on abbadon will bring him down and your potential game carrier is gone. (For necros is phasing them out via low WBB models).

If you really want to do it, then pack three full troop squads of ten, two with rhinos and the third escorting abbadon behind them. 450+60(meltas)+275 for abby, that can be decent. Though, toss abba against 3 wraithlords or a c'tan and you may feel a bit short.

You better be playing a friend of at least tell the person you are playing before hand that you will be using Abaddon in such a low point game. Abaddon in a 1k game is pretty hammy, so it should only be done for fun with someone who also wants to run something stupid like that.

As for his strength, the only thing he would have trouble with is fast army's like Eldar or a horde of Orcs overwhelming him.

or something that moves faster then 6" per turn. so anything mech so all tau , almost all eldar , all sm or on bikes like khan lists . any chaos army with dual lash . any IG army that can generate enough shots to take down his transports or his unit after he deep strikes/footslogges[and can the IG do it ? yes they can].

What if he plays against footslogger armies with his friends, with barely any transports? Holy crap, that's unheard of! ;)

yes that is , unless his friends play all DW.

Unheard of there.

Here, I've only ever played a mechanised army once. That was Dark Eldar.

Every other army I've played has, at max, 3 transports. IE: 2 Rhinos and a Land Raider. Hell, I've even played an army with no Rhinos and 3 Land Raiders.

If you wanna play with the big A in a small game, you might as well go balls to the wall with it.

Abaddon

5 Plague Marines, Flamer/Meltagun

6 Plague Marines, Flamer/Meltagun

Land Raider

Land Raider

998 points

Very much a "win big or lose big" kind of army.

As people have said it's kind of a one trick pony, but also it makes absolutely zero sense fluff wise. Abaddon would not lead a small raiding party, he's the bloody warmaster, he leads Black Crusades, he leaves the small raids to his myriad underlings.
