Ashen-Shugar
I apologize for the slow rate of painitng at the mo. I have been painting though: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/853/rimg0002.jpg He's half done and still very WiP, mohawk is done though. Here's a simple conversion of the 2008 WD subscription mini to have a powerfist. I personally love the 'bring it' pose. http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/5700/rimg0001.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173250-sons-of-orar-1st-company-veterans/page/4/#findComment-2126744 Share on other sites
sgtNACHO
He is a little pale. But other than that small detail he is a great mini! He really exudes Grecian/ Roman vibe with that sword and mohawk. Keep at it friend :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173250-sons-of-orar-1st-company-veterans/page/4/#findComment-2126767 Share on other sites
Ashen-Shugar
Ah yes, sorry for the rushed photos. He's not any paler than the rest, the light entering the lens washed it out and made it look paler, thanks for looking. jah-joshua
very nice pink marine there, mate...hahahahahaha seriously, i love this sergeant... such a cool sculpt... while i like the power fist you chose for the subscription mini, the purist in me is sad to see the chainsword go... he's gonna look badass when he's painted up though... the pose seems more sinister with the fist... keep up the good work... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173250-sons-of-orar-1st-company-veterans/page/4/#findComment-2128583 Share on other sites

Don't worry about the chainsword jah, it'll be used on some other mini and in turn make that look badass. Sergeant is on hold for now while I finish the Witcher mini, but will be picked up again straight away. Ashen-Shugar
So, believe it or not I actually have been painting. I'm working on a forgeworld venerable dreadnought for a certain online competition called 'The Golden Bolter' :( . IMO its my best work yet, and I've been trying painted battle damage and weathering powders to add a realistic look. http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1387/rimg0010.jpg http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6250/rimg0005k.jpg http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/5493/rimg0006.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7383/rimg0007m.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173250-sons-of-orar-1st-company-veterans/page/4/#findComment-2191897 Share on other sites
Dejay
The legs so far looks awesome, i'm not sure wether its how it's painted or just the photograph (i presume the former) but it looks like awesome shading work. Ashen-Shugar
Yep, I spent around three hours blendng the red alone. I went for a lot more contrat than before, and I think it looks way better, and it'll need to if I'm to win anything. Cheers. Brother Ash
AMAZING! Your miniature work is amazing! My god do I wish I could paint like that. One question.... where are those bases from? And another question lol.... making a painting tutorial soon for that beautiful color scheme? Ashen-Shugar
Tutorial is possible. I have the recipe posted somewhere here in this thread. As for the bases, it was so long ago that I honestly can't remember :embarassed: Cheers. jah-joshua
nice to see you back, mate... i wondered what hole you fell into... this Dread is lookin' wicked... the red is very rich, and the metals are quite nice... i'm gonna have to step it up on my Dread now;)... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173250-sons-of-orar-1st-company-veterans/page/4/#findComment-2192182 Share on other sites
GumbaFish
Not that your other marines looked bad at all, but the dread looks like you have really stepped things up. The red has much more depth and contrast, I can't wait to see the finished product. The_Chaplain
which dreadnaught is it? just a "regular" forgeworld venerable or a chapter specific one modded for the sons of orar? jah-joshua
no WIPs on the Dread, mate... to be honest i'm not really feelin' it, but i don't want to buy a new mini for the large category... it's just a plastic one, converted up with spikes from the vehicle sprue to be an Iron Warrior Dread... i've had it sitting around since the kit was new... nice to have an excuse to finish it, and try some weathering... funny how Graham McNeill's promise to put it up on his site was not enough of an incentive, but the chance to win free minis is... was a sad, terrible, addiction i have;)... lookin' forward to more updates... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173250-sons-of-orar-1st-company-veterans/page/4/#findComment-2193109 Share on other sites

S. Bloodhowl
Awesome minis but is it just me or does it look like the dread can't see over his gorget? Ashen-Shugar
That mini is a 2005 Army Box Sergeant. He is a limited edition, and is also mentioned several times in this thread. Yes it does look like he can't see out, but there's nothing I can do about that. If thats the only bad thing you can pick out then I'm happy. S. Bloodhowl
That is the only thing, I think it is because the body is tilted back and the head level with the ground.
