WIP Angron Conversion

Recommended Posts

Ill start by apologizing for not thinking to take pictures sooner in the process, you missed a good chunk of it, but the additions the the base model should be pretty apparent even under some primer, and I'm still working on some portions of it as we speak.

This is the picture i am modeling it from

(sorry if posting this image is an issue, not totally sure if this falls into the proper context for using limited amounts of GW's IP i know they can be picky)

This is what i have done so far

I started this project a few days ago. It was a Wednesday afternoon and i had just finished the last book in the Horus heresy for the 2nd time  when i discovered for once i had absolutely nothing to do for a few hours.

I decided to start with the my old Chaos Daemon Prince model that i had already based and painted some time ago.

Step 1:

I removed his head and the skull wing like thingies from his back, and his arms, and proceeded to file the giant hump on his back, and shorten up hsi neck to bring his head closer to his body.

Step 2:

I started using Modeling Resin (mines not green, its grey  ) and some 16 gauge wire to add the creepy tubes to his head that all of the wonderous unidentified rage inducing fluids would flow through into his hate filled little brain.

Step 3:

Using copious amounts of Resin i added a large crater covered surface to his back for all the tubes to flow into.

Step 4: after everything cured, i used a hand drill to clean up the craters on his back and get them to the desired diameter. Using small sections of hollow plastic tubing and some chaos landraider bits(from the lascannons i think) I added what i think look like vials of various fluids being pumped through the tubes into his brain.

Step 5:

I decided to add some finishing touches, skulls trailing behind him on chains using the reigns from several Bloodcrushers of khorne

Removal of the Eye of Horus on his shoulder (perhaps to be replaced with either a mark of khorne or a world eaters icon later)

I took the spiky halo off of my Huron model and added it to the tubing on his head along with some 20 gauge wiring to blend it in with the other tubing.

I also added some more wiring running from his back to his weapon arm to ... i don't know.. power his weapon hand i suppose <_<

Step 6:

i got impatient and wanted to see it all in one color so i primed it

Step 7:

I started Building his monstrous axe using some more of the plastic tubing i used on his back and several Chaos Rhino bolter bits to look like chain motors or power packs or whatever it is daemon prince Primarchs have on their axes <_<

Right now I'm working on the blade itself. I'm thinking a kind of large glaive axe looking thing, maybe with chain teeth, and in a few days my Be'Lakor The Dark master model should arrive in the mail from GW and then I'll figure out how to add wings to this already cramped model ;)

Im excited to get this done, it will make a great center piece for my massive World eaters army, and he will look real mean followed by a horde of bloodthirsters

I hate to point this out now after all the work you did sanding it off but thats kinda what that hump was for on the back of the model ;) I'd say you will have to remove the top row of dragon headed pips to fit them. the model looks great though good work otherwise.

Yeah i have already come to that conclusion ;) I'm thingking i may have to grab the dremel and make some holes in the tubing to fir the wings then patch it up with some resin. It was one of those moments where i didnt have the desired bits for the wings but had already built up to much steam to stop modeling for a week, with how impatient i am i sometimes wonder how i ever got into modeling in the first place

well there is and there isnt, it looks like i may have to get a little creative to get them in there, but thats what conversions are all about right?

i think real issue is i hadnt taken into account for the shoulder pads when i did all the tubing, after taking them into account i should have left a little more space on the sides

  • 2 weeks later...

here is an update, i got the axe finished, added the wings(decided to scrap the tanks of fluid because they really got in the way) and started painting, theres still a lot of small details to pick out and such but i think hes coming along pretty nicely.

sorry for the poor lighting, but my apartment is very unforgiving, without the flash its real dark and with the flash its real washed out, when this is all done im going to take it into work and take a picture in one of our light boxes :geek:

Sorry for the slow updates, i swear i paint faster than i post ;) Recently i have been distracted by the 110 degree weather here(its not normal) and my new WE terminator lord Zhufor model that you can see Here

hes not quite done but hes about 90% there. I still need to finish painting the chains on his axe, some of the skulls, some tubing, some minor details, and his eyes. I already caved in some faces with him this week, and no one said "hey why isnt that guy painted" so i figure hes well on his way.
