tedwin183 Posted July 15, 2009 Share Posted July 15, 2009 Not sure I know exactly how he does his rust, but I have a pretty good idea. Mixing a combo of bestial brown, blazing orange and scorched brown together with either sand or baking soda mixed into the paint (for the grit effect) is most likely how he did this. The baking soda is somewhat tricky to mix, though, because it is water-soluble, which means it goes into solution in the paint...but as the paint dries, the water content decreases and the baking soda recrystallizes. Most of the time I mix just enough so that the paint starts to get a LITTLE bit gritty-looking. When it dries, it will be suitably rust-like. To Guyver3x and Tutteman the rust was real simple, use a stippling brush and a tiny bit of vermin brown (like you do when dry brushing) and 'stab' at the area to create lots of tiny little dots. Then repeat this method with macharius solar orange. A few layers of each colour may be needed, the more patient you are the better the result. GW have also just released a stippling brush, so a purchase is reccommended... I hope to be adding a few more units soon, another plague marine squad a 2nd Rhino and a dreadnought (can' wait to get to grips with the dread). So again thanks for the comments and I will post more pics soon (& in the mean time I will be found in Chester GW hacking through space marines with a giant scythe!) Never get tired of converting & painting nurgle mini's, lets your imagination run wild, as do all Chaos legions. Especially with all the cool mini's that forge world have to offer. Saying that I am planning to start an Alpha Legion army as I have lots of spare chaos undivided bitz, and it will break things up.
