Some new Space Wolves for my Army!

TeamLando

Recommended Posts

Been awfully busy with doing that Space Wolf Battle Scene (which I'm sure you all have seen by now :)) that I almost forgot about paiting wolves for my actual army!

Well, just in time for the big unvieling and the upcoming launch (which will probably remove the LM tank if the rumous are true T_T) Lando decided to dig thorugh his stash of cleaned -a-year-ago-but-yet-to-be-painted-shame-on-me box to see what he could find that needed his attention. He returned 3 minutes and 35 seconds later with.. this!

And yeah well for those of you who doesn't know, my painting style comes with what I call a comic-book style clear colors, so rather than getting Clint Langlet artwork you get....wolverine? :P And yep, I don't approve of the babyblue colortheme and has long since decided to paint my Wolves in grey!

He's about 60% I think.. shadows, basic colours, first highlight.. some details.

My old Rune Priest, cleaned with ethanol a year ago and finally getting his colours back on. Hope you like him! I'm gonna change those boltgun metal thingys on his chest to blue when I get my blue back (mate's got it). He's even got his old green base xD gonna flock that up and paint it brown. Geez, green bases are so 1995 :P

Here's the old Leman Russ Exterminator that I got from a friend who bought a bunch of catachan IGs and got this rather messed up tank which he had no need for. So, the quality of the model was not ideal, but I'm trying my best to turn it into something neat. Might get some cool motives painted on it aswell later on.

Oh yeah! This one is not old, I bought him (3 pieces of him actully) when he was released back in...April was it? And I haven't touched him since, but now, the time has come!

And btw....

For the record I've painted alot of new minis since I last updated my relic-old post about my SW army maybe I'll post 'em too someday. That thread sure is old and forgotten by now!

Crits and comments are welcome seeing these are still WIP!

Looking good as ever TeamLando, I've always liked your "larger than life style." It fits the Wolves right down to a fine art. I now feel slightly sad about my LRE... it went to my Traitor Guard on the grounds my Wolves are likely to lose it and it wasn't in a great state, so I roughed it up a bit more and gave it the murals of the dark gods.

And I've been a bit undecided on that models hair and face for a while, so in the nicest possible way... I hate you. I'm going to have to buy it now. That's far better than the 'Eavy Metal Team version.

with the proper tools and a little balls-to-the-wall attitude, everything is seperate.

But yeah, Wolf Priest model is two pieces: a plasma pistol and everything else. Maybe the other hand too, now that I think about it. Head will definitely require the saw/dremel treatment.

looking great as ever, one question, do you start with a darker colour and build up layers of lighter colours on top? what i meens is the armour, do you start with say black, then darke grey progressivly getting lighter or do you higlight the darker colour oto the edges?

The Rune-priest is a four-piece cast, the body. lehs, arsm and head as one, the axe and hand as one, the plasma pistol as one, and the backpack.

Taking his head off IS possible, but you'll most def. damage the hair and the back of the head.. but the face and "front" hair should be removable if you use sharp tools and have some skills. If you really, really love that head for Bran I think it shoyuld be worth a try...

He comes with a power axe and a plasma pistol, and a wolf backpack too, so it's not the end of thw rold if you detroy him, the sculpt has some nice bits you could use.

As for the armor, I spray the guy black, then base-coat him in watered down chaos black+ codex grey mix, then watered down codex grey, leaving the blackgrey mix in the crevaces. After that I paint a thicker layer of pure codex grey, leaving the previous two where they fit as shadows. After that I add fortress grey, and the fortress grey+white mix to the top d(Ô.Ô)

Try it out, it's not that hard

I really like the leather color on the shoulder. If the rumors are true then the Leman Russ will be a prize piece for a display remebering the old days.

That's actually just the basecoat.. but now that you mention it, it looks kinda nice! Maybe I should use that leather-look for somethin' else

Right Brothers! Time for the last WIP-pictures before I finish these guys (WG and RP, leman russ will take more time :P) tomorrow!

Crits and comms please, last chance for me to change anything!

The Rune Priest's had some hours work on him now, both shouderas are now yellow, and I've added some cripsy blue white stuff to his runes. The axe became a frost blade, my own invention, the "blizzard blade" (i'm sure someone else has done this before, but for all I know, I invented it in my case atleast xD). Fixed some highlights and still got some stuff to fix on the armor/fur.

The thing I'm most pleased with here though is the knotted leather handle of the axe! Tried a new combo of colours anc contrast, and I think it turned out great! What do you think, brothers?

And the wolf guard. Started with the basicsd on one of his arms today, and I've almost completed the basics+ first and second shades of most of the main body piece of this wolf guard. Added some details like his jewel and things on the waist and legs.. not a very good picture, but you get the idea.

And lastly, I did som GS to the Leman Russ. Added some a wolf skull, a bit of pelt here and there, and a necklace of claws and stones I was very satisfied with :) I also added a big rune to the left of the lascannon, howevere, you can't see that in these pictures ;_;

Oh, and btw. If you like cool wolves and Njal Stormcaller, you might wanna check out my last mini on Coolminiornot. Added my year-old Njal this morning :)

Njal STormcaller on Coolmini

Give him an honest vote ;D I just added him because I think all the Njals on Coolmini is a bit old (although good, but y'know, old colours, 2nd edition colours and that stuff), and the site need something with a newer paintjob :o

Thanks Brothers!

About the axe, it's actually very simple, anyone can do it :)

I do it like this:

1.First, I paint the whole blade in midnight blue, paying attention to all the edges and crevices on the sculpt, since the darkest parts of the blade will remain that colour.

2. After that I take some regal blue, and mix it with water, and drybrush (although the paint is a bit more wet than when you druburhs) the regal blue to the upper areas of the blade, leaving the part closest to the metal bits midnight blue, as you can see on the pic.

3. After that, I drybrush (without using water as above) some enchanted blue+ice blu mix on the blade, so the part that bends get lighter than the other areas.

After that I do the same thing, with even more care with pure ice blue.

4. And finally, I take pure skull white and dot some snow on the blade's both sides. The most important thing is this stage, if you do thr snow too big you mess up all the hard work. Big snow flakes= ugly. Small snow flakes= nice :)

Try it!

Oh, and about Njal. Thanks, good to hear he's still cool. Painted a year ago.. learned a lot since then so :]

Wish I could've used the things I've learned on this latest Rune Priest on Njal too.

Brothers! Here's some new WIPs on my Wolf Guard, no pictures on the Rune Priest for now, the reason being he's almost done! So, I'll post some pictures of him, done, alter tonight! :(

But here's the Wolf Guard again, enjoy and feel free to C & C.

Still WIP all of it :D

From one mini to the next, here's the Rune Priest Ranek (tribute to the novel's) in all his finished glory!

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/28/runepriestdone.jpg

From all sides, as you can see, some new stuff since last time. His Plasma Pistol is done and got some viking-like runes and design on it, looked it up in a book about viking that I have at home (I bet every swede has atleast one :P). I also added some snow to the axe, and painted the claws on the fur pelt he's got on him. Some minor tweaks and changes, and the base will have to lack snow until I get to my apartment and flock him, but a part from that, he's done! Finally, after one year in my to-be-done bin :pinch:

Here's a close up on the axe, face and handle, the three parts I was most satisfied with. Also, look closely at that axe lads, if you wanna copy the looks. Shouldn't be too hard to see what's been done ot it in that close up :D

It's very simple really, just looks great from a bit away.

Thanks! I too though the official GW colours were a bit lame.. hope this makes some of you buy it, because the sculpt is really awesome!

Well, now that the rune priest is finished, I'll try and finish thw WG today/tomorrow, and then work some more on the tank :)

After that I think I'll dig some more in my to-do-box... might be an old 2nd scout sergeant in there somewhere B)
