Kapturowskis Space wolves

Hello everybody!

I've been posting but mostly lurking on these boards for quite some time and thought it was time to do a more formal introduction (better late than never, eh?). So, Space Wolves were my first army, I've played them since 2nd ed and I've pretty much stuck with them since. I restarted the army for 4th ed and decided to update the paint scheme, making it darker and a bit more gritty and battle worn.

Here's some of what I've got painted up 'til now.

Wolf Guard Battle and Pack Leaders

I still have a lot of models to paint, my Blood Claws are about 30% complete and my Wolf Guard Assault Terminators are basecoated. There's also some tanks, dreads, various characters and the odd Grey Hunter left to paint.

Hope you like it!

Hail and kill!

Those are very, very nice. I particularly like the TDA Wolf Priest - any chance of a close up? The only model I'm not convinced by is the Dread, but that's more of a personal choice on asthetics than a criticism of the paintjob or conversion, both of which are top notch!

Wow, thank you all for the nice words! I fell very humbled.

How did you paint these guys?

  • Prime them with Adeptus Battle Grey

  • Wash with Badab Black

  • Paint the armour Codex Grey, try to be neat to leave the black in the recesses

  • First highlight, 1:1 Codex Grey and Fortress Grey

  • Second Highlight, pure Fortress Grey

  • Drybrush the mini with a tiny bit of Boltgun Metal

  • Wash with Badab Black

  • Paint battle damage with Chainmail

After that I paint all the details and tidy up as best I can.

Thank you! Ask and you shall recieve ;)

I really like this guy too, it's sad that you can't use HPaB in TDA...

Love the Dread head, which model is that from?

It's from an old Epic Warhound.

And the Torso of the Rune priest.. Who it was from?

I bought a box of Chaos Iron Warriors for converting my Wolves in to older marks of armour, that chestpiece is from the Chaos Space Marine sprue.

Are the extra panels on the Rhinos just painted card?

Yup. I love plasticard.

Really nice stuff - I like the darker look you've gone for too, and particularly admire the battle leader - despite apparently wearing power armour, he looks terminator sized - very cool.

Oh, and welcome to the Fang. If your models are anything to go by, you already know your way around ;)

Really nice work. I wish I could do anything even remotely as good...

I really like the dread, I just think the picture might be an awkward angle and it makes the head look more like a pigs head. It still looks great though...

How did you do the gold shoulderpads on your Wolf Guards and on the Assault Cannons?

It's one of those colours I've never managed to do right :-/

Thank you all! You really warm my heart!

Glad you like it. I guess the head isn't exactly perfect, looks more like a dog or pig :D. I wish I had had one of the Wolf helms or something similar to use. Maybe I'll try a different angle and see what people think of it.

  • Start with a 1:1 mix of Shining Gold and Vermin Brown
  • Wash Badab Black
  • Highlight with Shining Gold

It looks quite worn and antiquated painted that way.

Brother, really nice stuff these, I especially like the Terminator Wolf Priest, truly awesome!

It's cool to see you've attatched a wolfhead (from a servopack) on on of those railguns, I mean, we actually see something like that in a Space Wolf-themed GW artwork in the latest PlanetStrike book! :D That's pretty cool.

Nice color scheme, maybe a bit Black (templar) for my liking but great anyway! I do them grey myself, anything but babyblue as they say.

Nice dreadnought aswell brother, I hope the (I guess) fortcoming Forge World one will look something like that :P

Keep it up! Ale for everyone!

Thank you all!

Here are two pics of my Dread from slightly different angles.

(The arms aren't glued on yet if you wonder why there's a gap ;))

Do they improve the impression to any degree? If the new Space Wolf models has any good wolf heads I'll probably swap the head on the dread. I have to agree it's not quite right.

amazing brother, have 10 ales...seriously....those conversion are awesome. question on how you got the dreads CCW to look like that. was it a cut and re-pin?

Thank you! Yeah, it involved some heavy cutting and I used plasticard to cover some parts up afterwards. I love working with plastic models, I can't imagine this kind of work with the old metal models.

If you can bare to do it, there's an older metal SW model with a helm that looks like a wolf head, it MIGHT work, but you'd have to do some cunning cut work. I don't notice a vast difference in the head, and I think that is mainly because it sits back a little in a cowling, which kills the elongated look of the skull and makes it look too short.
Very nice models, gritty and characterful. I particularly like the Wolf Priest and the Wolf Guard Battle Leader, they really represent the sort of legendary hero image that Space Wolf officers should have. The Battle Leader in particular looks like a giant killing machine which is great. Keep it up!
I'm diggin' these d00dz a LOT. Very "Gothic Grey" for lack of a better description. These are "Space Wolves" as I envision them, not "sky blue puppies" IMHO. Very well done, Brother kapturowski. If I may....................[Vader]"Impressive............Most Impressive."[/Vader]
Excellent and unique looking wolves. I've been scratching my head on a nice darker grey color scheme for another army (Relictors) and that is just the recipe I need. Thanks! Feel free to post these in the stickied Painting thread here in the Fang.
