Lord Corpus
Ok my main army is my Death Guard but i have started an Imperial Guard army any looking for advice on how you would beat it. By knowing the best way my opponets plan to defeat me the better prepared i hope to be to counter them. Deamons appear to be the most difficult for me (yet to play tho). i plan on using nearly all infantry, only vehicles or a few chimerias and a couple a valkyres. minigun762
So what are you looking for exactly? How to beat Imperial Guard with Daemons so that you can protect yourself when you play IG? If so, I'd say there are a few good things to try/have (I'm not super familiar with the new codex yet) 1) Vehicles, in general Daemons have a hard time against armor. Even the crappier rear armor of Chimeras is usually better then T3 and a 5+ save. 2) Medium-high strength multi-shot weapons. Heavy Bolters, AutoCannons, Multi-Lasers, even Mortars. All of these are good things to have. Daemons typically have a poor armor save but its Inv so you want to hit them 3 times hard, not once really hard. 3) Sacrificial units, you're going to get assaulted and you're going to lose (badly). Accept it and plan for it. Separate squads out so they can't hit multiple squads with 1 assault. You're best bet is to shoot them after they butcher a squad. 4) Pie plates and templates can be quite helpful when they deepstrike, because they're all bunched up. 5) You need a plan to deal with their MCs. Many times, their MCs are the key to their whole army and as you have 0% chance to kill them in HtH combat like Marines, you have to be able to shoot them down. Heavy Weapon platoons, with that order that TL's their big guns can be very helpful here. If the target has Iron Hide (3+ save) then Missiles and LasCannons, otherwise the AutoCannon will be king. Lord Corpus
Thanks Minigun, i will prob face daemons in a team tourniment coming up and was looking for advice. most daemon players around here play fateweaver with lots of bloodcrushers. only vehicles in my list are chimerias for my command squads so will have to see if that is enough. i do have plenty of squad to offer the gods tho. lol. anyway thanks again Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173816-advice-on-guard/#findComment-2055632 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
Yeah, you're going to need plenty more tanks to make it through a game against Daemons. I suggest Hellhounds, as they have huge templates and as Daemons for the most part only have Inv Saves, it helps a lot. If you go troop heavy, you will probably suffer mass losses. Truthfully, I see the Punisher as a good option against troop heavy daemons too, although I'm sure others will disagree with me. In any case, get tanks! minigun762
Thanks Minigun, i will prob face daemons in a team tourniment coming up and was looking for advice. most daemon players around here play fateweaver with lots of bloodcrushers. Honestly, I don't think that that combo is really that scary. Both the Fateweaver and 'Crushers are fairly expensive and neither of them is scoring. The 'Crushers are also damn slow, don't let the fact that they're mounted trick you, they only move like normal infantry. Think AutoCannons. They wound 'Crushers AND Fateweaver on 2+ and pump out 2 shots. Overwhelm them with saves and they'll start failing some. Remember the rules about the Fateweaver, you put a wound on him and he has to pass a LD9 check or runs away. Multi-Lasers can do very similar jobs. If they use Bloodletters, Daemonettes or Horrors, blast the crap out of them with your Lasguns. If they use Plaguebearers, I would look elsewhere for a target. Wounding on 6's with a 5++ inv save and FnP save means you're going to have a hard time hurting them at all. Plasma, LasCannons, Demolisher Cannons, these are the things to hit PB with. Hope that helps some, let me know what else you need. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/173816-advice-on-guard/#findComment-2055694 Share on other sites

antique_nova
how about the tank that can put up 20 shots a turn? a squad of them, will get its points back X5 against any deamon army. Moonsword
Leman Russ Punisher. Might want to check out the treatise over at the Boot Camp from the links section, it's got a lot about Russ usage and the various variants.
