Brothers, the Fellblade Wolves are slated to deploy against the vile xenos Tau later today, however they are in a little of a dilemma. Having never faced Tau before, and not sure what the opponents force consists of, Wolf Lord Jurrn has to decide which elements of his force to deploy into the somewhat limited drop zone. The Company currently consists of:

 

(okay, 1250 point game against Tau, never played this guy or tau in general before, dont know what hes bringing, what should I bring)

 

Ven Dread- either DCCW/AC or ML/TLLC

RP- Frost Blade + BP +CotS

WL-Frost Blade + BP

WP- PW + BP +HPaB

 

6 Scouts w/ 2 PWs, 3 shottys, 1 melta gun, meltabombs

Iron Clad Dread - Any config

 

Blood Claw Pack - 10 claws, 2 PW, flamer

Blood Claw Pack - 10 claws, 2 PW, flamer

Grey Hunters - 10 GHs, 2 PW, melta (can switch out PW for PF if need be)

Grey Hunters - 10 GHs, 2 PW, melta (can switch out PW for PF if need be)

4 Wolf Guard in PA w/ PF +BP or bolter

 

Attack Bikes x2 - Multimeltas

 

Dakka Pred - Autocannon and HB spoonsoons

Whirlwind

4 Rhinos

 

 

So what force should the wolves deploy???

Please post lists and questions about a particular list in the Space Wolf List section of the forums.

 

I wasnt sure if a question like this belonged in that forum, as it was not a specific army list build. But if the mods see fit, please move this to the Army List forum

2 Basic HQ's i tend to use are..

 

Runepriest 105 points & Wolfguard Battleleader 85 points:

both have: Forstblade, boltpistol, wolfpelt, frags.

 

4 sw couts: meltagun

 

10 Greyhunter:

-Rhino, powerfist, powerweapon, plasmagun, bolters

 

8 Bloodclaws:

-Rhino, powerfist, powrweapon, flamer

 

6 Greyhunters:

-Meltagun, powerfist, powerweapon, Razorback

 

Vindicator

 

This gets me to roughly 1000 points so that leaves some room for you to add/change some stuff. Its a basic list if you ask me wich fares well against multiple opponents, no matter what they take.

Thanks for the reply, but I have neither a razor back or vindi to use right now. I was hoping for people to make suggestions out of the selections in the first post. Thank you

Forseti has got a good suggested list. You just dont wanna go for footsloggy against tau, as they have str5 weaps w/ long range, and will mow you down pretty quickly. Like necrons, they excell at shooting, are awful at close combat. You will definately want to meltabomb those scouts up, as it will allow them to take down any devilfish or hammerheads (hammers being priority targets) that are sitting back. Other than that, a 4+ save means HB's will score autokills as will the whirlwind, and sustained bolter fire should maul up the units pretty bad. That said, be careful about killing any lil dudes in robes too early in the game (ethereal) as it will make all the units take a Ld test on his side. Any that pass get preferred enemy (tho any that fail will run, which is nice), and that kind of cuts down on your advantage in CC.

I would add a WGPL to your scout squad with a power fist . and a plasma pistol maybe .

that scout squad will be a true killer unit on tau . I faced tau a few weeks ago , and my scout unit accounted for half my kills . they arrived turn 3 and just started killing everything .

it was a glorious thing to see .
