AoBR Captain Conversion

Ok so after buying the AoBR set I really liked the captain model but I wanted to convert him to carry a bolt pistol instead of a bolter. (Because who needs a bolter anyway? We're Black Templars!) So to do this you have to cut off the bolter and then attach the bolt pistol and arm in its place. So without further delay here we go

In the first pic here you can see the stock model on the sprue. Notice how the bolter is resting on the guys hip. Obviously this presents a problem. Start by cutting off the strap underneath his gun. Then cut the gun itself off just before the stock as you can see in the next photo.

Here is the gun after being cut from the captain. You can see where I cut it, you'll have to shave the rest down to look like the next picture. Unfortunately I've almost finished him so I don't have a pic of what he looked like after I cut the bolter off

Here's what he should look like after trimming. Now you need to make him a bolt pistol arm. I of course used one of my BT arms. I also decided that just in case I wanted to have a plasma pistol I could to that to so I magnatized. This makes it a little trickier as you have to add two magnets.

As you can see from this you need to cut the hand all the way down to the chained wrist. I plan on adding some contour putty to fill in the gap and to make it look like his armor. You'll also need to add a magnet to the stub of his elbow thats on the stock model.

Heres the final product, I plan on adding some more BT bits like a Holy Orb and a lantern to his belt. You can see I added some contour putty to his upper arm to cover the magnet. Also note that I trimed off the pouch on his left side

Any comments are welcome, and of course if you have any questions feel free to ask.

First, Thanks for the compliments. The conversion would still be possible if its glued together (as the torso is the only part that is glued) However, it will be more difficult obviously because you will have only the 1 side to work on(you won't be able to carve from the back) As far as the Bolt Pistol is concerned, it is just attached where the bolter was cut off, though I used magnets so the two magnets and if you don't plan on magnatizing then you'll need to cut the new arm just past the elbow to make it the right length

Ok sorry it took so long to get this pic up. (my wife is out of town and I had to use my old camera) Anyway heres a side close up of the arm.

As far as putting a chain on the sword arm that would be cool, but I have no idea how I would accomplish that, any ideas?

Get some Fantasy flagellant bits from an online store; they have chains I like the look of and use frequently for my models. They are very easy to heat and shape, just dont heat it on your miniature like I did at first, use a guide rod :P I have also been known to use cheap generic jewelry/necklaces for a bit of bling. Hopefully you find what you are looking for.
