Reaver Carapace weapon question

in the rules (this may not be right) the weapon on the carapace has a minmum range of 18".

 

heres my question; does the weapon on top gain an extra 18"?

 

(If I'm right about the weapon option) do you place the hellhammer template for the inferno gun 18" from the body if it's mounted as a carapace weapon?

From my read on this subject, which does disagree with what most seem to think, is that the 18" minimum range restriction for carapace weapons applies to all weapons with a range in its profile while the Inferno Cannon is a template weapon and therefore follows its own rules for placing its template. This is an example of a specific rule overriding a general rule.

Have you actually fully read the Reaver Titan rules? On the inferno cannon it has a little superscripted reference number, and when you read the reference it says put the narrown end of the inferno cannon within 18" from the carapace and the big end no closer to the carapace than the small end. Always read the references, they're very useful :)

I did read the references; hence my original statement that I disagree with most peoples' interpretation of how the minimum range limit applies to template weapons. From my understanding, the minimum range restriction can only apply to range attacks with a range, as template weapons have a very specific set of guidelines used for template placement. If you apply the minimum range restriction to the all template weapons, then the Inferno Cannon becomes unusable if mounted to a Warlord or Emperor titan. In order for this specific weapon to be usable by every unit that may legally mount one, you must use the rules for firing a template weapon as written and apply the minimum range restriction to actual ranged weapons with a range listed in inches.
