Tutorial: Frost blade for any type of weapon!

Right, discussed making a tutorial on my "blizzard blades" the other day with some of you in my current WIP thread, and whadddayaknow, here it is! This is not the best blizzard blade I've done, nor is the best pictures, but it should give you the the general idea about how to make some of these yourselves ;)

So, when I was sitting down painting minis today, my latest addition, scout brother Efrahim came over to me and started bugging me about finishing him, and giving him one of them blizzard blades, and seeing as he HAD a sculpted power weapon, I though, sure, why not.

And with that, I give the word to my trusty Wolf Scout Sergeant Brother Efrahim!

As you can see on some of the images, I've used a similiar thing on the bolter, albeit with some lightnings in the background too, same tecnique, just a bit more blending! Try that too brothers.

Here's some additional pictures of my latest minis with the same blizzard blade thing going on, but on different weapons!

Lightning Claws

Hope y'all find it useful brothers! The completed Scout can be found in this thread, btw!

Yeah, I'm the same, the "blizzard pattern" is actually and evolved version of the frost blade as I made them before, before I got tired of that xD

They didn't have the snow, just the stormy clouds.

One can alter the looks with either snow, sea waves or, as seen on the bolter, lightning :)

Probably something else too, but that's the only three I've tried and seen work, so to say :)

I also tried making the snow more windy once, like, strokes of wind-snow to make it look very snowy.. but that ended up looking like a codweb xD

Might try that again someday.. I'm a better painter these days compred to when I tried it, I guess :)

Oh yeah! One more thing, gloss looks kinda ncie on these too. Didin't have any at home when I did the tut, though :/

I think a good healthy dose of the lightning effect and a double coat of gloss varnish will work wonders then... If you could PM or post a closer pic of that bolter?

Thanks! And maybe I will, if I find something interesting enough to tutorial (is tht a verb? xD)

Anything special you guys wanna know that you've seen and wondered about, maybe?

About the bolter and a closer shot, ain't got one that's closer than that, but I do got different angles of it, and this's the best picture of that that I got atm.

But I could probabaly take closer pics of that bolter when I get home from work today, don't have the time now unfortuneatly, gotta go to work 5 minutes ago xD (and although that sounds grammatically incorrects it's true :D).

Yeah, another angle, rather than closer, is what I meant... Too much ale too quickly, me thinks. I like that very much.

My only things I will be hesitant to learn are good ways to paint fur and hair/faces. As SW will need all three of them done well. Eyes I do ok with, i'd like to think. Flesh I do a brown basecoat, some layers of dwarf flesh, and then Badab Black or Delvan mud wash with a re-application of the DF paint where I see fit.

While that face-tecnique sounds like a good start, I think I could whip up a tutorial on something that'll leave a better result when I get my hands on another space wolf (I'm not at home atm y'see lads, nor am I for the coming week but after that). Got a decent feeling for fur and pelts aswell.. guess I could do a tutorial on one of those too when I get some minis :whistling:

Woo. My first contribution to the Librarium. Thanks for puttin' it up there, Tyrak!

More to come, me thinks.

It's a good start considering i've only painted 3 faces, two of them not so much faces but the odd little cluster-flesh bits on the FW sonic dread for Emperors Children. :whistling:

Enjoy your time away and no worries on when, where, or how... It'll be until Wolftoberfest that I get my minis

I have a similar dark blue to white fade look on all my frost weapons, you can check them out on dakkadakka, same profile name, in my posted images.

i didnt bother with lightning/snow effect in mine, but i went for an overall lighter color to offset my generally heavy shading color scheme.

I'd be happy to give yours a look, but I'm not registered on Dakka... Sorry to pester, but would it be too much to ask for you to copy and paste an image link or such here?

Lando, hats of to you mate. That was one brilliant tutorial :D - eavy metal team eat your heart out :P Seriously love your work and yeah that old school scout sgt is one cool figure, gonna have to dust mine off now and give him a worthy paint job.

Have you got one of the old 2nd ed WG with the wolf head painted up, would be a cool figure for another tutorial.

Thanks Brother! I'll see what I'll do next, and yeah I do have the Wolf-head Wolf Guard, as a matter of fact, I have every2nd edition WG there is, been looking high and low for them for some time now :cuss

THe wolf-head guy is painted,in huskey colors, named him Brother Hsuki aswell hehe....

Gotta take some new pics on my army I guess, oh well, stuff for later times!

Those 2nd ed SW had some real character and the WG with the wolf is personal favourite, I've got 5 for Ragnars personal bodyguard. Would definately like to see on of your tutorials on faces and pelts. Keep up the excellent work you do the Great Wolf Proud
