Hey,

Thought Id do my first blog. I really like the Sicarius model so i decided to have ago whilst trying to improve my nmm. Heres what ive done so far.

The cloak still needs more orange highlight blended in because ive only just started doing the right shoulder.

I've only added shading to one knee cap and a bit of the breast plate although im not too happy with the breast plate. I do like how the U on his tabbard bit turned out. I'm using the colour scheme I got from Durham Red off the relic forums and altered it to include the vellajo alternatives:

Mordian Blue, Ultramarines Blue. Imperial blue and Black mix. Ultramarines Blue to Wolves Grey.

I'd really like some c+c and some guidance if Im doing anything wrong.

Thanks

PS Ill post more picks when I get a chance to update the model.

I've re-done the cloak (its about my 3rd attempt on it, I couldn't get it right). I' pretty pleased at how its eventually turned out. I like how the bestial brown shading has turned out, unfortunately the photo makes it look slightly brighter than it is in real life.

Here is the new and improved cloak:

@Captain Mike: No, I've base coated the model first with a grey under coat. The helmet isn't undecorated yet and the pic made the grey look like meta.

@Barry: Yes I think what you said is a good idea, Ill add another darker layer. thanks.

@Wiplash: Yeha the U was done on purpose. It was done by a base coat of wolf grey Vellajo model colour. Then Ultramarines blue GW and Wolf grey where blended in so the blue gets darker at the centre. Skull white GW was then used to highlight the edges of the U where the light would hit.

Done the front of the cloak, not too sure about it, I think it clashes with the armour too much. Advice needed. I think white might be a better colour or even red like the back of the cloak.

I think it does clashe with the armour why not try a Skull white on the inside with burbonic brown at the bottom edge of the cape and maybe a bit of drybrush of bleached bone on little sections of it (only an idea)

But otherwise the model looks great so far can't wait to see the finished version

Like the armour so far but your right the front of the cloak is to close and blends in with the armour, I'd go with black with a blue'ish highlight or white with a blue'ish shade, that way you're tying the blue in but having a diferent colour next to the armour.

Looking at above comments: I don't think your a 'drybrush-your-cloaks-to-get-it-done-faster' painter, neither do I think black would look great. White is the way to go I think. With no hint of blue, but instead work upwards from graveyard earth to skull white. If you're going to have more blue, glaze the weapon with it, or some other area not touching the armor. You could also edge the inside of the cloak with a red colour.

Good work by the way, especially on the 'U'.

Thanks for all the help guys. I found the eavy metal article on the GW website on how to paint sicarius so I followed them.

Tell me what you think. I think its a big improvement on my last attempt which looks a bit crap but I was getting tired.

Here it is:

@twistinthunder: To do NMM on say armour. The way I do it is treat it exactly as though you were painting gold or silver because the way in which the light would hit the armour remains the same. For instance, when I get round to painting sicarius' armour. I would first apply a mordian blue base coat. Then start to add highlights to where light would hit the armour by mixing wolf grey (vellajo) and ultra... blue (GW) with increasing amount of wolf grey. Then I shade the model with imperial blue (vellajo) and black. Hope that helps.

quick question, being new I dont quite get all of your abbreviations, what does NMM stand for exactly?

Non Metallic Metal.

To paint a metallic effect using non metallic paints, for example using yellows and browns to achieve a gold effect or grey and black for steel.

  • 1 month later...

Recently found it hard to do painting because I'm making preparations to go to uni.

Anyway, here's some progress:

Sword and gun almost finished, the gun hand needs painting as well as the bottom bit of the sword.

Here's the main body:

Basically, the only part I'm completely happy with and I think is finished is Sicarius' left leg.

What do you guys think of it and the new cloakinterior colour, do you reckon it's better?

PS sorry for bad pics I used my mobile.
