Well met! Through my travels I have seen much, but I will be honest with you, The Fang has always called to me. So I'm here to stay, and as a show of my allegiance to Russ and the All Father let me show you my first SW miniature.

I just picked up a box of Blood Claws and a box of Tactical Marines to try and mix and match as well as a Rune Priest and a Rhino APC

Any C&C welcome

Although I'm no fan of hemlets on wolves, I must say that the red one was a origianl, and yet somewhat disturbing, touch ;)

It looks nice.. but there's something there messing with my eyes.. might be that I've painted so many world eaters lately I think he's a heretic.

Well, atleast you could use them as both wolves and 13th company if you wish :P Welcome to the fang brother, and nice lookin' start with your minis :D

hmmm true, but I guess you can look at it this way, our new recruits(or in this case hunters) are as skilled as smurf sergeants.

Since when do the Sons of Russ worry what the Ultra's do?

Umm.... Since we make them the butt of all our jokes? (or most of them, atleast) Personally, I like the idea.

I didn't realize we Space Wolves delineate command markings different than other chapters. When I was painting him up I just went with what I know. Sadly I am constructing this army with very little understanding of 40K, (I've never played before) and without the aid of a Space Wolves Codex. Every place I have gone in the area does not carry the book. How are leaders marked for Blood Claws/ Grey Hunters?

Also the Blood Claws box and the Grey Hunters box look to have the exact same sprues inside them am I correct or am I missing something?

I think the only real difference is the weapon sprues, claw boxes have more pistols, while hunters have bolters. The "offical" markings are just colours, though they're usually in jagged claw/fang-like patterns.. Blood claws = Red and Yellow, Hunters = Red and Black, Long fangs = Black and White, Wolf guard = Black and yellow.. Since our squad leaders are wolf guard, you'd do the whole squad with red/yellow with the leader being black/yellow.

Right shoulder is squad markings, left is great company (for my hunters I use a \/\/\/ type marking, with the top being black, bottom being red for 1 squad and the colours switched for my 2nd squad).

I believe for other markings it varies company to company, but blade markings are feats of courage/strength, bone markings signify wounds taken in battle.

As bull headed and independent as wolves are, there has never been a definitive guide to the markings. Hopefully that will stay the same with the new codex or there will be a run on decals and lots of crying over repainting!

Except in Rogue Trader!

Found this while digging, and if able i'll be making them into decals to use, just for shiites and giggles! The grey will be clear, to turn into whatever color I go w/ for armor.

As far as the new one goes, ye are a true Son of Russ, Brother. Welcome to the fang...

At this rate, Tud will make Grey Hunter soon as he can read and now use Google :P  Congrats on finding that info!

To our new brother, welcome to the pack! Ale and food are on the right so grab an ale and make yourself at home. Just make sure to by everybody a round and watch out for flying blood claws etc ;) .

Cheers

Thorgrim

Awwww, shucks ya'll.. Make a young whelp turn red!

A small critique/suggestion for our newcomer, though it may be my eyes (not had my glasses in a while) but perhaps a Delvan Mud or Gryphone Sepia wash over the plets to help further the definition. After that layer has fully dried (I wait over nighT) go back and try a drybrushed of your final highlight/layer color to pick out the tip-tops of the fur lines... That's my ONLY suggestion thus far!

Just finished the Wolf Priest want to get your opinions on him.

I think I prefer this grey over the Grey Hunters, but I'm still not sure. I want them to be grimdark not happybright.
