MEDITATIONS OF A LONG FANG

I thought I would share some thoughts with my brethren/sisters which have been gathered from over 4 decades of experience !

Its in response to many little comments I see here & there scattered thru various post.

( My " campaign experience " is 14 ,Golden Demon statues and endless gold medals and a few Best of shows from Military Modelling Competitions around the world. ( not boastin folks ,just letting you know I not some Bloodclaw high on ale !). )

Many of you who will read this are just G.W. orientated when it come to the putty you use for modelling, If you are just a green putty user let me let you into some liberating news ! ....... Green putty is actually one of the most difficult putties to use if you are a novice modeller.....why ? Because its extremely difficult to blend onto surfaces , it cannot be sanded or filed once dry & machine grinding is right out ! I wont bore you with the reasons why G.W . sell it , lets just say it is marvellous to use if you are a experienced modeller , especially if you are making masters .

Here's the good news there are alternatives out there . I started my scratchbuilding modellmaking with a putty called MILLIPUT(20 YEARS AGO!). This is a much easier putty for novices to use because it can be smoothed onto models with water /spit . Once dry it can be sanded , filed & machined.

However about 10 years ago my U.S. friends from the military modelling world introduced me to a new product called MAGIC SCULPT. This stuff is now my no 1 putty ! But the good news continues ! you can mix it with green putty so you get the best properties out of both types of putty.( 50 % of each type mixed together )

MAGIC SCULPT is a 2 part putty like GREEN and is easy to use , it dries slow and can be smoothed with water or surgical spirit(what I use ). I use Talcum powder on my tools to stop it sticking.

So to all you folks who struggle to personalise /convert your models , try this putty and I am sure you will find it a lot more user friendly !

GOD bless ............. V

Theres some really great models in there - the dread is beautiful and the modeling, particularly of the faces, is very impressive.

More importantly, thanks for the tip. I admit to be historically slavish to GW products, but have myself started using other brands for brushes and tools. This putty alternative sounds like a good idea which i will try at the next oppotunity. Much obliged...

great work I like how you did the frost blade. What scale are these figures? I love how the first link, fella looks kinda like "THE CHIN", friggin luv it! ( THE CHIN...other words knowns as Bruce....if you know dont who BRUCE is...go watch Army of Darkness )

But seriously who doesnt know about that "sculpt" stuff by now? :D

Most of the personality models are 90mm/100mm, Thanks for the kind remarks gents , but like I said been doing figures for 40 years! You should get good with that much practise!

There are young Italian, Spanish & French modellers who have been doing figures for only 5-7 years and those boys are AWESOME !

Ahhh Silvermane has been in my pic folder for awhile so your hands gave birth to such an excellent mini?

Love your works. Please let us know when future works are completed.

And thanks for the info. I'd love to sculpt some power armor on Be'lakor.

Those are totally awesome dude. Some of the best sculpts I have ever seen and your painting is top class.

I think you (I am sure there are others but....) should be appointed to some high position in this forum and start loads of 'How to' threads taking us mortal wolves to through basics to those amazing final results.

Also thanks for the tip on sculpting putty. I confess to being a bit of a GW purist but am slowing breaking away using other brands of brush etc. I think if you don't have anyone teaching you or showing you first hand how to do things you tend to stay in one place, especially if there aren't other suppliers nearby and you are unable to mail order. And when GW supply pretty much all you need, even if they are comparitively exspensive, it can be hard to move away and take chances spending hard earned in unknown places on unknown products.

Keep posting. I am sure many of us can learn ooh so much from you

Yo LUNCHBOX, this one is 28mm G.W.Size , http://www.coolminiornot.com/114513

I am currently working on a 90mm Wolf scout and have just finished a 13th coy Lord, for U.K. G.D. Ill post pics when they are both finished.

I am so looking forward to the new codex and models (especially the guy on the wolf)....Itll send me into a wolf modelling frenzy.

I am not precious/secretive about my modelling techniques and I am only happy to share, so if you have any questions or need help with anything you are struggling with dont hesitate to ask .Thanks again guys.

GOD bless ..........................V

I dunno, I suppose I actually prefer his Salamander Libby and Laura Croft...

Your a great scumptor man, but some of your wolf faces seem.... distorted. Like to me personally, ragnar looks fat. Could just be the angle though.

Redmaw though... liked that one for a bit... it keeps popping up around here.

I was that man WHIPLASH !

lol :D :D

i didnt realise you did the eisenhorn model either, i remember seeing that, 2 years ago? must have been, that was back when i was collecting kroot, which is why i loooved it soo much

would you be able to provide any pre paint shots or even better a WIP log??!!?? your stuff looks amazing

what paints do you use? or do you use a mixture from as many ranges you can find just to be cimplicated ;)
