Space Marine Bike Bases

Recommended Posts

For 'Ard Boyz, I played and will play a White Scars list containing 33 bikes. As some of the bikes are borrowed from friends (I only own 20 of the bikes), I'm left with a question on bikes and their bases. Specifically, do bikes need to be mounted on their bases, and if so, can some be on different size bases?

For explanation, there are a few of the bikes that I borrowed with no base, and 12 of my bikes have larger magnetized bases (the bases are the kind GW posted in their article). I played these bikes with no bases (as I didn't want to introduce a second base size, and I already had bikes missing bases) in 'Ard Boyz round 1, and no one brought up the subject. However, I know that there is the possibility that players attending the second round will be rules lawyers, and I don't want to get flak in the second round. If bikes do have to be mounted on bases, then I'll have to use the larger bases as well as the small rectangle bases. Would this be a problem?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a 40k tournament player. I AM a WFB tournament player. The following is based on that experience:

The bases that are being shipped with SM bikes are in flux. The new scout bikes are using longer, rounded bases. Meanwhile, SM bikes are shipping with 25mm x 50mm calvary bases. It's my understanding that the new bases in the scout models will become the standard over time.

Since you're getting into a serious tournament, I'd recommend standardizing ALL models on a base of the same size. This is because of the measurements that some players are will make for range, assault, consolidations, etc. Both of you will want consistency. For simplicity's sake, the calvary bases maybe best for now.

All my bikes have come with 25x50mm cavalry bases, except my new scout bikers, which come with capsule bases. I'd highly recommend you at least blu-tack cav bases on the ones without a base. How do you even get those to stand up?

Attack bikes are the exception. They do not come with, nor need a base.

nf to add further to the argument for bases, here's the product descriptions for single bikes, bike squads, and Ravenwing bikes:

Whereas the attack bike makes no mention of a base ('cause you don't get one):

Someone WILL be a jerk and hassle you about it.
