Deathwing
Hi all, I managed to snag a quite a few tactical marines a month or two back and when I made them up I got bored of making just tactical marines so I built 10 of them into Vanguard using misc. close combat weapons I had lying around but not wanting to spend money buying jump packs I found a few tutorials from here on how to make the old RT style jump packs from nothing more than some used pens. I had to modify the plans a bit due to a lack of bits and pieces and green stuff. I also needed to improvise a few weapons as I didn't have enough bolt pistol and chainsword arms (that's why two of them have thunder hammers and one of them is holding a grenade) Anyways, I finished putting them all together earlier today and took some pictures. They still need some paint (I'm thinking of going Salamanders as two of them have Thunder Hammers and the other marines are built like Salamander tac squads with flamers and meltas). Though I suppose they could make a good stand-in assault squad for my Dark Angels if I needed them to. Oh well, next time I turn tactical marines into assault marines I will look into leg repositioning. shrike.ex
I'm very interested to see how these turn out once you have painted them  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174557-my-wip-vanguard-with-turbine-jet-packs/#findComment-2063709 Share on other sites
Drudge Dreadnought
It looks interesting, but some closer up pictures that show the packs better would be nice. Sir Clausel
Looks great. I would like to know how you did make the thunder hammers? Whats the head of the hammer made of? Eberious
Intresting idea for JP's. I think the T-Hammer heads are made from dwarf hammer heads(looks like but might not be). Captain Mike
Very interesting. I always like turbine jetpacks. The legs look okay, giving them a more 'stand firm!' look. Deathwing
Looks great. I would like to know how you did make the thunder hammers? Whats the head of the hammer made of? The thunder hammers were made from some plastic rod (I forget how wide, 1/16th inch?) and dwarf hammer heads. I scraped off the dwarf symbols though. Some careful repositioning of the standard bolter arms allowed the double handed hold on the hammer (and the sergeant's relic axe) Here's a shot of the back pack before attached. Pic 1 http://lh4.ggpht.com/_QMttiwScp0Q/SlPtKyXxTDI/AAAAAAAABCY/bFXTz56gMzA/s800/DSCF3257.JPG and after http://lh4.ggpht.com/_QMttiwScp0Q/SlPtMLQ8KeI/AAAAAAAABCg/0mPSgkD4ko4/s800/DSCF3259.JPG It was actually easier to attach the back packs after cutting the exhausts off, but before adding the pen tubes. I also used some high elf shield icons to dress the turbine up a little as it looked kind of bland. They curve just enough that it fits well on the tube.
