TeamLando
I painted some on my Leman Russ Tank today.. and though I'd whip (pun intended) together a small tutorial of one way to paint these wolf icon we space wolves player usually have a bunch of, but alwys save for bigger things, ending up not using them at all xD Atleast that's common in my corner of the world :P Well, anyways. I was sittin' there paintinhg my Leman Russ, and at that very moment, Commissar Lord Belmont of the Cadia 609th came over to check up on how the Leman Russ he lent me was doing. Unfortunately, I had yet to finish him, and the little commissar lord was outraged. So he taught me a thing or two about painting Space Wolves Leman Russ Icons. Here's the picture-with-audio-in-text-form recording I got :P And this is kinda how it will look to most people: The camer's lens is better than the human eye after all, so the above pictures aren't really a fair comparison to real life. But this small one is :D Hope y'all can get something out of it, of course, if you're army's main secondary colour is red, or green, or whathaveyounot, you can change the blue to that colour, and so on. But this is just some general tips on how to makes this icon look decent from a distance :) I'll make some more, better, tutorials when I get back to my apartment and my wolves: Face, pelt, more frostblades, and I promise I'll revive the Fenrisian Terrain thread. It's been on my mind for MONTHS! ;_; Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174745-tutorial-wolf-icon-how-to-paint-it-in-one-way/ Share on other sites
lunchb0x
cool little tutorial, but you need to slow down with how quickly you paint , and water down your paints more. Its a bit too chunky...if you slowed down you could mix the paints better for a cleaner transition between the darks and the lights. Overall not bad. TeamLando
I actually tend to water down all my paints, but I don't mention it all the time in the tutorials :) but I'll take your advice, and try to improve it further! Sometimes it get's a bit chunky and I don't mind it, unless it's like a competition mini. But I'll try and think of it more from now on d(Ô.Ô)b It's kinda ment to be rough transitions, looks good from a distance, though. When I want minis to look goo close I usually use like 10 more shades of the same colour xD This Leman Russ, and the icons, however, has been painted, and cleaned, Two times, so it's a little rought and chunky mainly due to tha, I think :P I'll be more careful with my next tutorial! Thanks :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174745-tutorial-wolf-icon-how-to-paint-it-in-one-way/#findComment-2065811 Share on other sites
lunchb0x
Quick transitions and properly watered down paints : Less than 1 hour to paint. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v35/lunchb0x/deathwatchfirsttimepaintingblack-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v35/lunchb0x/deathwatchfirsttimepaintingblackarm.jpg Mind you thats about a 4-5 year old paint job...much cleaner and better looking now...just need a new camera. As far as painting the bone colours...the bone on the chest is painted with beastial brown and bleached bone...1 coat b.brown, and a 50/50 bleached and b.brown, and final bleached bone, with maybe a touch of white for the final highlight if you really want. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v35/lunchb0x/deathcompany2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174745-tutorial-wolf-icon-how-to-paint-it-in-one-way/#findComment-2065839 Share on other sites
TeamLando
Looks nice, although I gotta tell ya, I've been in the hobby for almost 15 years, so I know how to water down paint ;D Just that I don't use it all the time. Especially not when I paint something that just have to look good from a distance. But it sure's a handy thing. Maybe worth doing a tutorial on.. I'll think about it ;p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174745-tutorial-wolf-icon-how-to-paint-it-in-one-way/#findComment-2065860 Share on other sites
