Devil Dog
Ok so I have a friend who plays Tau and he has seen the ferocity of a Daemon charge. Now he wants to play Daemons and as I'm one of 2 Daemon players in my area I have agreed to teach him. See my problem is that I have no idea how to teach a Tau player (or any other army) how to play daemons. By play I mean help him to understand the rules and show the general points to playing. So far I have gone over the Daemon special rule with him and explained what is probably the most awesome part of it (however he disagrees) daemonic assault. Is there any advice you guys can give to help him? I play a mixed god with no Slaanesh and he wants to do Mono-Slaanesh. Now you see the problem! Hellios
Is there any advice you guys can give to help him? I play a mixed god with no Slaanesh and he wants to do Mono-Slaanesh. Now you see the problem! Just play some 1,500pt games with him, let him try different slaanesh lists and different ways of using them. Try using different armies to put him in different situations. If you can see (or think you see, because he may have a plan) maybe query him to consider if what he is doing is the best course of action (Don't be specific as to why its bad & what would be good get him to consider it himself and don't fo it to often, recap after the game where you think he needs to improve.) If you have no experiance with the army yourself (with the units he will be using) you can only give him general tips as you did on the daemon special rules and advise on deployment using daemonic assault (although this varies from unit to unit). I guess if he needs this much help you could go through how the units work on paper. Anyway the best way to learn is to play. By all acounts fiends are great, I would imagine Daemonnettes need to be fielded in larger units as they have a weak save and low toughness. Seekers are faster versions but don't score and the big things (GDs, DPs & SG) all do what they say on the tin + whatever upgrades you give them. Heralds :o might add a bit of extra kick I don't know :'( Anyway my main point is just get him to play (proxy if needs be although he should be safe buying 4 boxes of daemonnettes to start with XD) and that is how he will learn. minigun762
Check out the number of posts from Captain Malachi under (Daemon Review), they should give a good idea of the units and army builds. As for how to teach him, that might be hard seeing as how Tau are about the most opposite of Daemons I could imagine. You don't use transports or armor, you typically are very bad at shooting (assuming all Slaanesh), you lack armor saves but have inv saves. You rely on close combat to win. However that might all be good things as it makes for a much different experiance playing the army. For teaching, I'd start small say 1000 points. You play his Tau and have him proxy some Daemons against you. Walk him through a few games with some general hints (stay in cover, assaulting vehicles, etc) then let him try his own hand at it. Excess Nerd
I started playing 40K as a daemon player it is my only army currently but as a pervert I wanted to make a Mono Slaanesh list and yes i break the "number rule and run my daemonettes in a squad of 20 b/c one of my friends has shot my squad down to 6 models after a turn thank Chaos for Fearless. After some getting shot the urine out of i decide to add Tzeentch so i could shoot back. I have been toying around with a list that runs Masque and 2 heralds which is 7 uses of Pavane so it gives u more control and is a bit fun. But as far as a mono Slaanesh goes he is going to need Masque for ppl to take shots at she is a good distraction while your daemonettes go for the throat and most likely a Soulgrinder to give him any shooting and he has a bulls eye that ppl tend to try and hit forgetting the AV13 thinking it is more like a Defiler. Personally i believe the Soulgrinder uses a defliler as a toilet. Daemons are in my opinion easy to teach and fun to play since all you have to do is land and run into combat as fast as possible. That should suffice for tactics to get him started. Khorne is probably the easiest to start with since it's the tactically simplest and has some very fun/satisfying units. Advanced tactics you can let him learn by himself or with the already recommended Malachi posts or at www.yesthetruthhurts.com, which has some good battle reports and some good daemon lists (though generally down on daemons as a top-tier army by virtue of their rules).
