Iron Hawks Chapter Master

After seeing this model

I was inspired to make a new chaptermaster for my army. As while I liked my first attempt it didnt look special enough to lead my army.

Ive decided to go for something custom built again rather then a stock model, as I didnt feel the usualy over intricate armour and golden banding suited my army.

So... This is it.

Sorry for blurry and wonky pics, was useing a computer microscop to take the picture and its the difference between half a milimeter tofocus it.

I decided to go for a design more closely styled to the tech marines and the new iron clad. Thick plates of armour, lots of equipment, far more suited to my Cammo marines I think.

C&C welcome if not encouaged.

aww jester i loved your old CM, i thought he was awesome. though this guy does seem to blow him outta the water, but he seems more master of the forge esk than an actual CM, though it does seem to suit the rest of you army theme (upon going back and looking at them again haha)

maybe an unhelmeted head, when ever i think CM i think, "I'm so cool, i don't need a helmet, bullets deflect off the awesomeness of my skin"... well ok maybe not that bad, but that seems to be a big thing with CM, none of them seem to wear helmets

ho its just under that monster of a storm bolter with a auxilery nade launcher and a scope attached.I wanted to give this guy the feeling that he can direct an entire battle from his position hence all the sensory equipment and ariels. And I waqs going for a master of the forge sort of feel. My Armys a sort of mix of Iron hands and Raven guard, fast attack tech heads, all my veterans have bionics.

Dude, you honor me. I am glad I was able to inspire. I am just an old guy having fun. I like you old Chapter Master but the new one does look a tad more imposing. I love that Predator style retracto blade... possibly the coolest feature. Mind if I paint up a model from your army for prosperity?

eh, my philosphy on painting is, that there are no bad or good painters, just guys who spend way too much time playing with toy soldiers and guys who have real lives... I am married, so my life is over... LOL. just practice the basics. All those good and great painters are religious about the basics. Like you, you have a great grasp on the basics of blocking in the colors AND staying inside the lines. Which means NOT worrying about making mistakes, BUT cleaning them up afterwards. Now just add some hilighting and shading and you have a great mini, to which you are well on your way. This is the same advice I gave Vtraxx back when he first started. And now look at him... he will be a multiple Sword winner soon. Even in an insane comp area like Canada!

Okay hes nearly finished! I need to attempt to do some highlighting... which has never been my strong point but I shall try, I will also be trying to tidy him up as I go along. Any suggestions would be nice on how I could improve him. Be brutal, ill never learn if you dont point out my mistakes.

Sorry about lighting but the good light if fadeing. Im stuck with a crappy desk lamp as my main bulb isnt working.

I think after looking at this pic i will make him a new blade for his wrist mount.

the chest armor is freaking nice, but the blade should indeed be slightly bigger :(

nah he doesn't need to over compensate like SOME marines

i do really like him, he is coming together well, and if thats the feel of your army, iron hands and raven guard mix, then he does indeed fit the bill nicely

Im still deciding what the army will be like, but i feel they should be very technolegy based, their chapter was nearly whiped out along with their homeworld so thery have very little tradition, i feel they would rely on cunning and stealth to win their battles due to there small numbers and heavy reliance on scouts. A hit and run army that suites their mainly fast attack choices. Im just saveing up for a couple of landspeeder storms and ill be done with the core of my army. Their thunderhawk has been stood still for a long time now but im determined to finish it when i have the time.

I think ill keep the blade about the same size, it is a wrist mounted one and i always imagined it retractable so shorter.

I really like the work you have done on this guy! The retractable sword rocks, and the Stormbolter is totally badass!! is it a combi weapon? I was not sure what the barrel on the side represents.

I also really like the alterations you made to the armour, it definatly looks like it could protect him from anything. Which leads me to my one and ONLY concern, which is that his jump pack almost seems too small to be able to hurl this guys awesomeness into the air, perhaps you could enlarge it a little, or add thrusters to his legs, or something along those lines....

I am looking forward to seeing this chapter grow. I like the whole stealth/hit and run idea!

Yeah I did plan to extend his jetpack in sdome waqy but ni my haste to start painting i forgot. I dunno he dosnt look like tis too small but ill think about how i could do it anway.

The Extra Barrel is his Auxilery grenade launcher. I was going to try mount it on his shoulder but I couldnt find anywhere to put it on the original model, which is sad because i think ti could have looked aswome, but i decided to stick with it under the storm bolter this time around.

This is my first step to makeing a chaplian, im not sure how well this guy will fit in as like i said in a previous post this chapter dosnt have much tradition. But I suppose all marines need some form of chaplain to help them keep their faith or they turn to the forces of chaos. Again i didnt think the ornate and classic gw models would do so i started trying to model something that looks more fitting. My green stuff skills arnt amazing but i shall continue touching him up as he drys. As always C&C welcome and be brutal.

Small update, first one to point out mold lines gets a bolter stuck somewhere imaginative.

Green stuff is a little untidey atm but as always im no master so i hope to fix that in post preduction.

I am still unsure about nose lines but fortunatly its something i can add later. The eyes i want to be narrow, will hopefully make him look angry or like hes staring at you through empty sockets.

Once again, i am remodeling my chapter commander. I was not happy with the final pose of my 2nd try. After a long time stareing at him I began to feel that he didnt have enough movment in his pose. Call me a perfectionist or just obsessive. Also after a few attempts to repaint him i think the model was loseing its edge ( i stripped it each time but i think it effected the greenstuff slightly).

This time however I started from the ground up, I built him up around the thighs, gave one thigh a bionic.

The storm bolter is two bolt pistols green stuffed together. I also switched the bionic eyes to the other side of the face simply because i felt it looked better.

Mounting the storm bolter onto the wrist however meant I had no place to mount the auxilery granade launcher. So I sliced a scout binocs in half and mounted it ontop of the jump pack, I may over swap this out for a small version of tank smoke launchers.

The base needs sand, some minour green stuff work here and there and i think he will be read for some paint.

My green stuff fu is still not great but id like to think im learning something new every time I try it.

From my main WIP thread.
