Valhalla
I've been making some progress on the first 3 models of my new biker squad and I thought I'd post some pics up to get some feedback on them. I'm pretty happy with them especially the HQ/WGL model running over the Thousand Son marine. In the background are some photos of some over WIP units such as my Scouts and Blood Claws. I do paint my wolves a darker grey then most players and I'm especially curious what some of you think about the shoulder pad colors I've started playing around with. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3448/3777006389_27c0803013_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3583/3777006313_ed7b1a089f_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3585/3777006237_2fe705028d_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2656/3777006085_a7045b9305_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3552/3777005955_75c8614e36_b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/ Share on other sites
Skirnir Ragefang
Nice, I love the CCWs. The second Picture looks like the biker is cheered on by the wolves in the background for driving over the Thousand Son. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2067188 Share on other sites

Border Prince
Maybe a little too dark gray, but that's just me. However, I like the gold on the shoulders. By the way, I like that one of your bikers turn a thousand son into a roadkill: ;) :D :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2067368 Share on other sites

Wolf Guard Nostromo
I think the combination of the dark grey, gold trim and 'pirate' heads works really well. I've also got time for any wolf that treats thousand sons like that :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2069573 Share on other sites
Inquisitor 117
I'm definitely diggin these models! Any time 1k sons are brutalized is an awesome sight for me!:) What gray do you use? I really like the way it works. I've been using a Black undercoat for a while now... Also, where did you get the heads? I've been away from 40k for a while and am trying to redo my wolves... I apollogize for any ignorance, brothers... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2069581 Share on other sites
Valhalla
Guys, Thanks for all the great feedback and kind words, thought I'd take a chance to answer a few questions that came up in this thread. The best photo of the shoulder pad design I'm trying out is the top one as its the only one where I've colored in the wolf head. Right now I'm liking kommando khaki there but I might go for something a little bit lighter. I initially tried painting it a yellow base with red trim but I could never find a head color that worked and it stood out too much against my dark grey color. Skirnir: I made my entire Army free of chainswords and most of my infantry has axes from WF Chaos. The only exceptions would be Terminators, and some of the special character models like the Rune Priest, GD Wolf Priest and the new lighting claw model. Prince: I choose the darker grey as the light grey wolves can look like they haven't even been painted. Plus I think the darker grey makes them look more menacing. Inquistor: Its a combination I made using the Vallejo colors that consists of a 3:1 ratio of Black Grey and Dark Blue Grey. I'll check out the paint #'s and post them on here. The heads mainly come from WH Fantasy Chaos. All of the bike heads are from the marauder horsemen but there are some other really good heads in the regular marauders and even the Empire flagerrents (sp) I've been thinking about trying to find a place on here to post more of my conversion work so let me know what you guys think. Though I'd need to find someone with a better camera. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2069957 Share on other sites

JMcL63
Your colour scheme is a nice change from the more familiar lighter greys Valhalla, and your paintwork is clean and tidy. I have 2 suggestions which might help you improve your work: Your paints might be a touch too thick; try thinning them a wee bit more? I can see ugly joins on the tyres and the front mudguards: you should deal with these in future. You could try green stuff, although putties that can be carved and sanded would be more useful. Another option is liquid plastic. Making liquid plastic You need: A bottle of liquid poly with a wide mouth (essential), and an applicator brush (useful but not essential). Some shavings of plastic from sprues. Simply dissolve the plastic in the cement until you get a nice gloopy constituency. You just paint this on and leave it to dry. It sands nicely. Also, it keeps for ages: I have a bottle I made at least 6 years ago. Hope this all helps. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2071416 Share on other sites
Valhalla
JM, Thanks for the feedback. I've only been playing/painting for about a year and a half so to get some praise from someone who obviously knows what they're stuff means a lot. I know my paint tends to be a bit on the thick side, and I'm working to make an effort to thin it out especially for faces I like your liquid plastic idea but you'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge of UK slang, would you know the American term for Poly? Thanks again for the help. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2071566 Share on other sites
JMcL63
Glad to help Valhalla. On paint: try going for a consistency somewhere between cream and milk. And "liquid poly" is liquid polystyrene cement. Here in Britain Humbrol supply an appropriate bottle. I don't know who might supply it in the US. :o Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2072002 Share on other sites
Valhalla
I'm sure Lowes or Home Depot would have it in the adhesives section. What are your thoughts on the dark grey color with the Gold and light beige shoulder pads? I know its not the traditional light grey with yellow shoulder pads but I tried doing yellow and it didn't look right to me against that dark of a grey. JMcL63
I like your colour scheme Valhalla; the muted tones of the beige and the flesh work well with the dark grey. Your figures can only look better as your skills improve. I'd probably look for places to put small splashes of colour, but that's just me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174875-biker-squad-wip/#findComment-2072432 Share on other sites
