Corpse.
Goofing off with various ideas with a gaming group that own more than 19 titans among us all (mostly warhounds) I wanted to suggest a gaming style for people to try out. Since everyone feels guilty or shy about bringing their titans to our games and the idea of showing off their titans paint scheme is the same as gandering at the local plaguereaper with a five hundred dollar paint job sitting in the glass case at the store. To break the ice and make people feel they actually bought something they can use more often then once a month (and in a few cases, once every two years) I made a little something up. Titan Warfare 1: Minimum to spending at the very lest 70% on titan(s), no less. 2: Night fight will be in effect every turn, titans count as having one searchlight with normal rules applying. (Allows melee titans to run in, and support being many vehicles searching for titans so everyone can hunt them down, also allows guess/indirect fire weapons to rule on the same scale as D weapons and multi-shot weapons for void fields for lacking any other massive forces to remove the shields) 3: Only two sides can participate of equal points value, when all titans are either destroyed or immobilised one side can call an end to the game at the end of their own turn for a points value count, the one who killed more points worth is the victor. (Strategic withdrawl - if your unsure you've killed more points worth you could be shooting your own foot!) Only fully destroyed models and units count, otherwise there are no victory points for them. Simple enough? Allows for a chess style game and no matter how high the points value with titans involved on every side at 70% minimum the games will go by much quicker. Suggestions on rules changes welcome. Now for the querries. Best weapons and unit combinations for the job? Best titans for the job? Average points limit when its 1v1 considering orks taking stompas and other races? I dont want to have 2 warhounds facing 3 stompas where adding a few more points allows 4 stompas and 3 warhounds... (2v3 and 3v4, offbalances a bit) Help appreciated. BigJon
Sounds like a blast, and seeing that many titans on the table all at once would be a sight for sure. I would try just all titan battles to work out the kinks, start small, 1v1, 2v2, 2v1 stuff and let it grow. If your doing this for a gaming group how large is your table and terrain? FerrumIgnatus
Why shy about fielding a titan? average titan-fanatic joe didn't scratchbuild it (or used a heap of quids to order one from FW) just to collect dust on a shelf? No, sir, it's either crap or get of the pot, that's my opinion. as for weapons options, I LOVE warhounds with twin plasma blastguns, or reavers with twin turbo-laser destroyers (those three-barreled ones) and a apocalyptic missile launchers. meh, it's getting late, and I can't think straight. perhaps I shall edit this tomorrow. (2v3 and 3v4, offbalances a bit) Well depending on how you build your Titans, there are 2 major ways to build your supporting armies, either offensive or defensive. If you're Titans are decked out with SD weapons and geared to kill other super-heavies, you should make your support units defensive, protecting your own Titans from fast moving Melta squads, Chain Fist Terminators, Daemon Princes etc etc. This allows your big guys to kill other big guys without wasting shots on the little stuff. Good choices for this are usually jump infantry, Rhino squads or even tactical Terminators. If you're Titans are decked out with more AOE weapons or a more balanced loadout, I'd make your support units offensive Titan Killers. Its the same things I just said, Fast moving Melta units, Chain Fists Terminators, Fast MCs etc etc. Best Titan (if all you care about is spamming SD weapons) is probably the Reaver with 2 Laser Blasters and a Turbo Laser. Thats 8 SD shots a turn. Twin Turbo Laser Warhounds or Laser Blaster/TurboLaser Warlord are also effective. For a balanced approach, I selfishly point you in the direction of my tactica. I think it will answer alot of questions. Elenaria
Nineteen Titans? That's pure pr0n right there. Yum. I second the opinions on focusing on Titan killing weapons. It could be fun, for sure, having scores of Skitarii milling about just for the joy of blasting them apart, but that'd be such a minor footnote. Oh. And do post pictures, if you please. Nineteen Titans... drool... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174903-building-an-army-around-titans/#findComment-2171757 Share on other sites
Severus6
It could be fun, for sure, having scores of Skitarii milling about just for the joy of blasting them apart, but that'd be such a minor footnote. I both agree and disagree with that statement. Having swarms of Skitarii running about engaging each other, crawling all over downed Titans would just add a certain feel of "realism" to the game. That and watchng them blown to bits,...well it is their lot in life. As for the footnote part, I think you could outfit enough of them with AT weaponry that some lucky muldoon could score a hit and bring low one of those mighty fellows. Even if they stripped away a Void Shield or two,...wouldnt that be enough?
