KeithGatchalian
For cement grey, then codex grey followed by a black wash, then highlight again with codex and then codex/fortress grey then a final highlight of fortress would be on target. LPetersson
I'm guessing you want something along the lines of the colour this guy is achieving: http://www.beastsofwar.com/warhammer-40k/p...templar-scheme/ (Sorry for the threadomancy) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/174977-painting-advice/#findComment-2487307 Share on other sites
Sharpsilver
I have always found that Vallejo Game Colour 'Sombre Grey' is an excellent tone that works well. It's not too blue-grey, but enough to distinguish the Pre-heresy scheme from the scheme used Post-Heresy. It's got a lot better coverage than the Shadow Grey or the Foundation Fenris Grey that many people use from GW. It's also cheaper, comes in a dropper bottle (for palette freaks) and is pre-watered down to a suitable level. Although if the paints been on the palette long enough it'll need to be watered down continually like any other acrylic paint product. It's also suitable for Airbrushes/Sprayguns (being watered down a bit more) and there I is more in a dropper bottle due to the fact a significant portion of the Citadel paint pots are empty space, where as the Dropper Bottles compact the paint more and make use of the entire container without anything getting caught under lids. Base coat Chaos Black or In this case, Vallejo Game Colour 'Negro black' (It's actually called that sadly, was quite surprised since you don't usually get that from UK paint brands, which might indicate it's not a UK Company) Then there are two methods that can be done here. You can either carefully go around the armour, leaving black in the recess from the undercoat, or you can simply coat the the armour neglecting the recesses, and then later giving the recesses a wash of Badab Black. I found mixing this method works well. Since I don't like dirtying the armour too much, but it's A LOT easier to allow the wash to fill the recesses since human error is undoubtedly going to occur and it's far easier to wash it then carefully paint the 'dirty' areas of armour which didn't need to be effected by the wash. To be honest, the dirty areas of the armour do give it a bit of shading as well, which adds to the effect. After this. a 1:1 soft highlight of Sombre Grey to a White of some sort. In this case, I used Vallejo Game Colour 'Dead White'. Then after, a hard highlight of 'Dead White/Skull White' in areas of your choosing. Making sure to not 'overwhelm' the model with hard highlights, but fine enough to provide depth. --------- There has been much debate about the whole Citadel v Coat de arms v Vallejo v Other brands. The average thought was that Vallejo provided better coverage on the majority of it's paints apart from Metallics and Washes, which Citadel were better at. Coat de Arms was another fantastic alternative because they provide lots of Former 'Citadel' paints that are no longer sold through GW, as well as a competitive alternative to Vallejo or Citadel colours. jmurph
I prefer Vallejo's colors, but he asked for Citadel. Codex and Fortress gray sound just about right. May want to mix a little white into the Fortress for edge highlights. Charadon Granite might be a good wash color since it has a little brown to it. Straight black wash will look "cleaner". I would recommend keeping either contained to just the recesses and wipe it off raised areas. Oh, and It's Black (Negro) because negro means black in Spanish. Same label as White (Blanco). Nothing racial.
