Cyclone Missile Launcher

This has probably been asked many times before and is also in the FAQ however I don't understand the rulings on it.

What I'm talking about is what I can equip to a terminator with Cyclone Missile launcher already equipped.

I want to have a WGBL with 4 WGBG all in term armour and all with Lightning Claws however I feel I need a more ranged punch in that squad so I want to give the WGBL a CML as well.

So am I able to equip CML and Lightning Claws or just one Claw or none.

Thanks in Advance

While this is certainly "fair ruling" now, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that we will be able to continue to have this completely bonkers ueber customisation in the future. The only unit that allows customisation at model level now is Ork Nobz AFAIK.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new dex has a completely different ruling on what Wolf Guard in TDA can take as armament.

I could be completely amiss: maybe the C:SM allows for assault termies to be equipped with CMLs (don't know; don't have my dex here at work).

Safest bet it to wait it out 'til October and see what the new dex allows.

A Dark Angel player would have to confirm, but I am 99.9% sure my friend who plays them told me thats legal for them as well (2LC with Cyclone), but its been awhile since we talked about it.

Currently, its unclear with what they can take. Some think it means they can be outfitted like vanilla marines with a PF/SB, others think it means they can take whatever they want (2LC, SB/SS, etc). My advice, ask locally, then proxy.. because there is no telling what we will have access to in a few months.

Thats my delima, I have no problem running them as a primed model, but commiting to painting a TDA model right now seems to be a gamble, I got alot of other painting to do instead. only draw back is their cost, sure they come out kicking like a wild mule, but a couple ulgy rolls and it's a heavy loss.

keeping the CML at range is best bet, 3 CML in a pack can make for some ugly ranged fire

A WGBL with a heavy weapon (or a cyclone of his own) plus a few other WGs with Cyclones makes for a decent "Long Fang" stand-in if your pressed for points. Takes up an HQ slot too, which means you save there as well. Works better too when you throw some wolves in to soak up wounds.

I have found it very leagal and very good.

I run him with a TH/SS combo as well. He took down a hive tyrant (shooting and then assualt) and then got charged by a carnifex in his turn, past my counter attack, and proceeded to lay down the hurt although I faild 1 InvSv and he got insta deathed.

So his two most powerful creatures (only 1,000pts) killed by 1 140pt WGBL, not bad ay?

A Cyclone Missile Launcher is a two handed weapon. Why? Because the WGBG entry says to.

The Armory says we can have ONE two handed weapon, and one single handed weapon OR two single handed weapons.

So if you have a CML you can only have ONE other weapon- so you can have a single lightning claw, OR a stormshield OR etc. Two lightning claws counts as two choices because the armory says so. Storm sheilds count as a single handed weapon, not wargear, because the armory says so.

You can have a Stormbolter with a Cyclone missile launcher- but it counts as your other weapon. This is because of the revision of the SW codex, so the later copies list it as an option in the WGBG entry.

If you want to do it any other way its a house-rule. Your friends may allow it, and its not game breaking- but its not RAW, so dont get upset if someone protests it at say, a tournament.

Did they do away with that targeter thing you used to have to have in one hand to fire it? Seems like if that's still there you shouldn't be able to have two lightning claws etc.

Yes, the old CML targetter went away. The new plastic terminator sprues don't come with it like the old metal models used to.

Problem is, for the Wolves, even if it is gone, we can still only have a single-handed weapon. Sucks, but we only have to live with it for a little longer.

In Colorado Springs, eh? Where you play?

Which is why I'm not going to worry about it until after the new codex.

I've played at The Gamer's Haven a few times in the past month; I just learned about the place in June when looking up 'Ard Boyz locations on the GW website. Good FLGS with a good group of friendly folks as the regular players who hang out there.

Hmmm still a few wolfs out there with 2nd Ed dreams of old ;) . I don't think the cyclone/ass cannon combo has ever been legal, it certainly wasn't in 2nd Ed. I remember it was a very heated topic back then, many games abruptly ended then were furiously debated over many bottles of stout ale for an hour or three, ahhhh the good old days :P . Then GW quickly addressed this issue in a White Dwarf, I think it was issue 200.
