wizard12
Just out of curiosity (and fluff intrest) how many Grand Masters are there Now, I was told there was only one Grand Master when I previously thought there was a sort of council of 7. Now I may be reading this wrong but in the DH codex it says this "...and one of its Grand Masters is ..." I figure this inplies there is more than one. please forgive me if this is a stupid question as I haven't read any books on grey knights exept the codex. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175116-grand-master-question/ Share on other sites
Grand Master Tyrak
Multiple. One sits on the Inner Conclave of the Inquisition, so they have a say in running the Inquisition (although we don't know if the position is permanent or rotated between the GMs). We don't know how many GMs there are, the full DH Codex quote which you paraphrased is really the latest thing we've heard about them. Not much material comes out of GW on the subject. Kaled100
This question was debated a few months ago - no conclusion was ever reached, but you can read the various arguments & evidence that was presented here; http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=167114 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175116-grand-master-question/#findComment-2069867 Share on other sites

jeffersonian000
I've been getting the feeling recently that being a Grand Master in the Grey Knights is more likened to being a 5th degree black belt in western martial arts; i.e., its a level of excellence rather than a military rank, based on experience in the use of (and level of power with) using psychic powers. The fact that a Grand Master is just a more powerful Brother Captain, and a Brother Captain is really just a Terminator Sergeant. Daedalus Templarius
I use GM stats for GM points, but still call the guy in my army list a Brother-Captain. I mean, a GM would be at the head of blunting a full-scale daemon invasion of the highest caliber... not leading my piddly little 2500pt group. Hopefully when a new codex comes out (lol), they will rectify their strange ranking and make a BC at least equal to a SM captain, and a GM equal to something like Calgar(but better!). Wrath
I'm inclined to think that there are quite a few GMs. The GKs are about as far from following the standard SM TOE as is possible. Given their highly disbursed nature, along with the likelihood of a major daemonic threat appearing in any given location, thereby requiring a fast, local, powerful response, I'd say that there are probably GMs scattered all throughout the Imperium.
