Storm Shields

Hi all,

I'm converting a wolf lord riding a SM bike armed with a Frost Blade and Storm Shield.

I've got my Chaos Maruader Horsemen Head and axe on the way, but I'm struggling to find Storm shields.

I came back to 40k at christmas (first game last night, didnt do too badly but store was busy so didn't get to finish) so I'm not sure if there is a standard SS to use or if there are ones on certain packs that look really good.

Could anyone recommend a shield (or shields, I'm also doing a WGBL footslogging with FB and SS) from a GW pack that I should get?

Thanks brothers

An idea;

If you are using marauder horsemen bits on him, use the marauder's wooden shields. it adds a barbaric, olde worlde feel, as well as making it look suitable for the Lord. Im not much on Marine SS, but hey, look around for what youlove best :D

another choice for the 'barbaric' feel is the chaos beastmen shields these are the one i have been using as of late and i find them very adaptable.

the first two are completed shield on models

and this one is a plain off the sprue shield.

cheers guys, thanks for the help - I got the heads and axes off someone with the box kit so I'll try and see what the shields are like.

I've thought about wooden shields but it kind of doesnt sit right with me that they're wooden, I always felt like they needed electricity pulsing through them and it'd need to be similar looking to a power weapon colouring (thats my opinion of course). Is there any fluff in any SM books that refer to Storm Shields, or is there any fluff for the SW's and using woodenish shields?

I think I'm going to take a look at my Rhinos menacingly

Thanks again for your help guys, I'll be taking a look at all three options.

Best regards *and ales*

If you want to splash out, try the Forge World Black Templar storm shields. They do require a little bit of work but they look fantastic and the detail is mostly appropriate to wolves as much as Templars - a little bit of Green stuff and you're away. As with all FW bits though, they ain't cheap...

Cost effective - no. Awesome and relatively unique - yes.

. Wooden looking SS could just be a foible of the artisan who made it. I think it was in sons of fenris, it describes the Fist of Russ having intricate carvings on th ecomputers; which shows that there is some love for aesthetics; Thunderfist's hall in the Fist is described as looking like a proper Fenrisian Jarl's hall in one of the Ragnar books.

Your call though, its your money :)

Tank hatch with wolfiness attached. The story is during a campaign that saw him elevated to his Wolf Lord's Wolf Guard he ripped the hatch off a Chaos Marine Vindicator and killed the crew, so they took the hatch and attached the needed energy gear and made it into a Storm Shield for him as a "reward".

thanks again everyone - I've ordered several different versions from a bits site including regular Terminator Storm shields. I've decided against the "wood look" and have gone for various shapes and sizes (I think I've got a dwarf shield like above) and will try to wolfify similar to what Vrox has done - although I'm struggling to get icons like that.

thanks again
