Conversion idea for servitors

Bearing in mind that Fenris itself is swarming with giant furry man-eating killer canines, would it be completely beyond the realms of reason to assume that an iron priest may find a particularly ferocious one, subdue it somehow with SCIENCE! drag it back to the fang, use SCIENCE! to fit it with a neuro-link, maybe a built-in weapon or two, an ocular implant, some armour plating, and mechanically assisted jaws of ferocious snapping doom that also double as a clamp or something and a bunch of go-go-gadget-tank-fixing-SCIENCE!-tools and use it as his servitor thingy?

the fluff says that the organic component of a servitor is "grown" by the iron priest probably with SCIENCE!, and grafted on to the mechanical frame. so why does the mechanical frame gotta be human shaped? why not use SCIENCE! to grow some giant furry man-eating killer canine organic parts?

just some food for thought while i contemplate my next conversions.

oh, btw:

all the other chapters use humanoid servitors.

Roboute Guilliman said we have to use humanoids.

The Administratum specifically told us not to use wolves.

they still use keyboards in the 41st millennium? dang, SCIENCE! seems to have focused alot on advancing weapons of mass destruction, intergalactic travel, off-world colonization, medicine, genetic engineering, etc. but sadly it has neglected the field of data entry.

oh well, i don't think wolves would give reliable field data anyway

luckily, data entry isn't really a big part of a servitor's duties on the tabletop.

WIP of my wolf servitor with heavy bolter. it's really hard to make them not look orky.

pieces used so far:

Wolf from Goblin wolf riders box.

SM backpack

SM scout sniper visor

heavy bolter from a vehicle sponson

large power plant backpack from a heavy gear miniature

some wires

some sprue

some GS

actually, wolves are of the genus "Canis Lupus", so both canine and lupine are technically correct.

that refers to our earth-wolves, but we are talking about fenris wolves here. I could not find any info on it but i bet games workshop came up with their own pseudo-latin name for them somewhere.

That Servitor loos nice so far but i would like to see it with some more bionic components. Cybernetic limbs for example. Or spots where the fur has been shaven off and some operational scars can be seen. I am very curious about the results.

i'm currently trying to figure out how to replace at least one of the front legs with a mechanical replacement limb, or at least bulk out the feet and make them look like metal with big sharp claws, anyone got any suggestions on models i could use? right now i'm thinking of using sprue, chuppa chup sticks and GS, but not sure exactly how it's gonna look.

the line between "techy" and "orky" is a very fine one indeed.

well, the bionic leg came out ok in the end, and only required scraps of sprue and the handle off a chaos marauder's flail (i'm sure most SW players will have a few of these laying around ;P)

here's a pic

you can't really see the rod in this pic, it's sorta located behind/under the leg, makes for a nice hydraulic actuator sorta look.

the toes don't actually look as bad as this pic makes them out to be, stupid ultra high rez cameras make everything look bad.

hope you like!

Yeah there is a cover of an old edition of Gamma World that had a kick ass guy in Power Armor on the back of a big Cybor Badger or something. Looked freaking amazing. I can't find the picture these days thou. I must have lost the book somewhere and some time. They did a really cool miniature for it a long time back.

OK, finished the conversion, painted it, stuck it together and bought a new camera, quite a big day for me :Troops:

so here's the pictures, i think it turned out pretty good, just gotta make 3 more of these and repaint my iron priest and i'll have fulfilled my pledge. XD
