Jonas Stromclaw
So Im going to play my imp guard buddy who has just built an army from the new dex. He is taking an Executioner w/ plasma cannon sponsons as well as a three sentinels w/ plasma cannons. If memory serves this gives him a potential 8 plasma cannon shots per turn. Has anybody faced this kind of list before? Im a little wary of it, even if the solution is semi-obvious (OBEL scouts for the LRE and landspeeder typhoon/long fangs for the sentinels). Just wanted to see if anybody has seen this in action, thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175455-plasma-cannon-special/ Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
yes i have, and took it out with my wolf guard terminators...i dropped right infront of it, and the terminators failed to do any damage to it. the tank opened on my terminators, doing 17 plasma wounds, but due to storm shields, kill 2 of 6. i then chain fist the monster and rejoice. so other than dumb luck, i am not sure how i did so well... SeanyPrawny
I wouldn't suggest longfangs. as much as i love the old coots one plasma shot will cripple them. Perhaps a land raider. With so much S7 stuff i can't imagine he'd have much left over for decent anti-tank (though am yet to play imp so what do i know :pinch:) maybe even a Leman Russ Exterminator for laughs and to take out the sentinels. kittenofdeath
three armored sentinels and an executioner, all packing plasma, costs about 450, no extra armor or anything like that meltas in your GH packs, 3 man long fangs (gotta watch out for 'em though, easy to kill them old fellas) amd fists are easy ways to pop a russ, along with obel scouts also, if posible, stand what you can loose in the open, stand what you want next to something squishy of his own, the threat of scatter is a powerful tool Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175455-plasma-cannon-special/#findComment-2073645 Share on other sites
TeamLando
A bunch of OBEL scouts wit Melta guns, melta bombs and possible a WG with a plasma pistol and a power fist or something might do the trick too o.Ô Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175455-plasma-cannon-special/#findComment-2073656 Share on other sites
Wolf Guard Hengist
All of the above plus a couple of itsy bitsy attack bikes whizzing from cover to cover to pop them with a MultiMelta, if I remember correct that Leman Russ costs as much as a Land Raider so its gonna hurt him when he loses it. The big thing though that I would do is go totally mechanised as all that Plasma is going to struggle to pop AV 11+ and his crappy BS 3 means he is going to scatter off target with a few shots as well. Jonas Stromclaw
I hadn't thought of attack bikes. Been wantin to try 'em out so this would be the perfect chance to do so. Thanks! Garmr
I've faced few time the executioner . It hurts a lot ! I've stopped it with my long fangs for 2-3 turns with lascannons and missile launchers . Battle Brother Loken
Your main foe is the turret itsself as it pumps out three plasma cannon shots and can always fire on the move (i am a guard player and i left the Fang i know but i sitll love to help) so always aim for the turret and it being a russ it can get a hull mounted las cannon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175455-plasma-cannon-special/#findComment-2073848 Share on other sites

stinkenheim
no, they forgot to put the line about noly working in close combat in, so u get the 3++ save all the time. my friend and i still play it as only in cc but rules as written mean u get it against shooting too. makes them mighty hard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175455-plasma-cannon-special/#findComment-2074064 Share on other sites

Now my #1 for dealing with executioners? A Bombardment cannon from my orbiting strike cruiser. My #2? Landspeeder typhoon to the side armor. #3 is a droppoding ironclad- to the face. Wolf Guard Nostromo
Fast attack choices and drop pods I think, plus the old OBEL scouts. So, attack bikes with multimeltas and land speeders with various armaments... Drop Pods of Wolf Guard/dreads (ironclad :cuss )/Melta Grey Hunters. I wouldn't be too afriad though... low BS plasma cannons can go just about anywhere. Sometimes... :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175455-plasma-cannon-special/#findComment-2074434 Share on other sites
Hotspur
I would definitely try to work in some OBEL scouts w/ meltabombs and meltaguns. Maybe even go for a WGL w/ a PF if you can find the points, but don't worry if the points aren't there. One of my buddies plays an IG armored company and he said the worst beatings he's taken are from SW armies w/ OBEL scouts armed with MBs. Attack bikes w/ MMs are good, too. LS Typhoons w/ MMs are great for sniping armor if you can get them into position; if you get into melta range, though, you're getting into dangerous territory, especially if you're within half the MM's range-- where they happen to be most effective. The MM is, really, just a panic weapon if something happens to get too close to you. Drop-podding dreads is pretty effective, too. If you're going to DP a dread to take out armor, though, you want to make sure it has a MM since a dread is only S6. Even better, try out the new IC dread in a pod...that could be really nasty. Most of what I've said has been said already, but I hope it helps anyway. Good luck! Uhm a Dread with a Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon is Str 10, 6 is the base strength without a CCW.
