My Chaos Marines

Just started painting after a loooong break. Never was that good to begin with. Anyway, here are the beginnings of my Chaos Space Marines chapter. The idea was to use colours that cover reasonably well on a black undercoat, and are interesting enough that I can keep blending and highlighting at a minimum. The army is meant to look good on the tabletop, not enter painting contests.

Please give constructive criticism. Ideas that will improve the overall look without too much work are especially welcome.

Thanks!

These pictures are being reduced even though they are only 800 pixels wide. Don't know why. Total size is only 1,8MB so they should be quick enougt to load.

As you of course can see, I highlight various parts including the mutations. Highlightning powerarmour, especially the shoulderpads I find quite difficult to do well. On these models, most of the sharp edges (which are the easiest to highlight well) on the armour are gold anyway. I'm going to try my hand at the 'new' GW washes and see how that turns out. After reading a Death Guard tutorial on Warseer, I think I could actually skip the black undercoat entirely and just base in grey of purple. Considering I can then ignore blacklining, trusting the wash to take care of that, my painting speed should increase drastically.

Thanks for the comments and advice, everyone.

/edit: Typo.

what paint are you using , cause the purple +green seems to be very matte , almost chalky .The highlights you have done on the mutations are great if you did that on the power armour you would have a great marine indeed .. the washes will make these go from good to great in a few brush strokes.. !

do you have a whole army planned?

I'm using Reaper Paints, though I am headed for a LFGS in a few minutes to buy the Citadel Washes.

The power armour is painted in Imperial Purple, Armor Grey and Dragon Gold.

Bolters and weapon handles are Walnut with Dragon Gold.

The green arm is black Citadel spray, then Kilt Green, Emerald and Slime.

And yes, I do have an army planned. I expect to do a heavily mutated chapter with Plague Marines as some of the troop choices.

I followed some of your advice, and gave this fellow a wash of Gryphonne Sepia. I think the result looks great and I will be doing the same to the rest.

empchildrenbob: Heh, if The Incredible Hulk isn't a chaos mutant, I don't know who is :tu:

MRCHAOS: I guess it is a bit ironic to take closeups of minis painted to a tabletop standard. I expect to have nine marines ready tomorrow and will post som pics from a bit further away.

Here are the first eight marines. The ninth isn't quite finished as his sword and trophy rack needs a few more washes. I think they have turned out quite well. Some needed highlights and washes helped a lot.

They look realy cool now :D

Can I sugest you get some armour over the green arm, i.e like an Ork shoulder pad or something or even shave it down a bit and put a power armour pad on.

I think that would make it look even better, but still looks cool anyway without in my eyes :)
