The Ferrus Erinyes (or Iron Furies DIY WIP(pic heavy)

Recommended Posts

After a long time out of the hobby ( 9ish years, and considering i'm only just 20...), today I finally decide to put up what I’ve been working on lately, I do have a good deal of old stuff to go with the new, and I plan at some point to strip them all off and go to town, but for now they'll do. The group shot below shows my army as it was at the end of June-ish, needless to say some of its changed and there’s a little bit more now.

That raider I was talking about can be seen at the top (I’m in the process of restoring an old style crusader (the ones with metal bits) to use as her sister, and having to do some green stuffing to fix some of the missing pieces...damn you eBay for letting me buy things that look presentable but are absolutely rubbish >_< though I did get it, and a mostly intact rhino for under £15...so it could be worse.). You should also be able to see the three razorbacks in there, and at the bottom the first of my Line breaker squadron.

[fluff is now on my fourth post in this thread]

One of these days i'll buy a hobby drill (or dig a pin vice out of my grandfathers old carpentry stuff) and drill barrels ^^

I tend not to do highlights on most area's of my marines, in part because i think it can make them look a bit...tron-like, and in other ways because i don't really trust myself to do it well. In either case, for the majority of my army its not all that important, because the area's of darker, flatter colour offsets the bright metallic colours more. in some cases, such as robed models or scouts, i'll drybrush the fabric areas in a light colour, to bring out the edges before painting on the robes colour (which is almost universally a darker colour).

I'm planning to do a full on tau army later, and i'll try edge highlighting more on those.

First off, the Vindicator "Antarro" (and my Counts as Antarro Chronus, Tank commander Veidt)

I like the concept. All minatures are painted well and the lines are clean. My only caveat is the triple-color. I found myself bouncing from one area to the other and it left me feeling a little confused. It may just be me however. Overall well done though.

I'm not quite sure I know what you mean, but surely the confusion caused would be advantageous in battle against the enemies of the Imperium :D

I haven't prepared any more fluff to go with these guys yet, but thought I would put up some more pics before I toddle off on holiday tomorrow :(

First off, my first five scouts, and I really do mean, my first scouts, I never really took much interest in these guys until the fifth edition, mainly because I didn't like painting faces/patches of skin, and partly because I didn't much like the old metal models. However, these plastic guys were a bit of fun ;)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF0993.jpg

I tried to keep the chapters main colour scheme, but thought that having too much of the shiny metal in the extremities would take away from the "scoutyness" of the units. However I suppose having a bright and shiny chest/back would have proven a bad idea...oh well, if they can't handle the odds, they just aren't worthy ;)

Next up, my command squad. I do have some older mini's that could have represented these guys (an old metal apothecary and the old anniversary Emperors’ Champion (which I will be stripping and repainting at some point)) but thought I'd pick up the new plastic set cheap anyway. I tried to differentiate the command squad in a couple of ways from the usual troops, giving them golden faceplates and a golden covering for the raised section of their backpacks (the Apothecary instead has a white faceplate). I also added little tin bits patches on some of the panels on the armour to make it look slightly different, I think however that when I repaint my older marines, this will be a feature used over all the models, to break up the colour a little bit over the broad sections of metal armour.

Apothecary (Kneeling on the CS legs, I repositioned a different set of legs into the kneeling position without realising the command squad came with a set, silly me, the repositioned legs went on a Melta wielding guy to go with the command squad, but I didn't take any pics of him yet.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF1003.jpg

Company Champion the golden shoulder/helmet/backpack armour appears less bronze in person, though I do quite like it the colour in the pics.

Company Standard Bearer. Now then, as I’ve said, I'm no great painter, and a banner, was not something I was particularly looking forward too, its only lightly superglued on so that it can be removed and painted on when I get to that point, but as I don't have a chapter symbol as yet, it can wait. (On that note, any suggestions for a chapter symbol for a dark angels successor chapter with close ties to the Mechanicus, as well as suggestions on ways to do the banner, with that symbol, relatively easily are greatly appreciated)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF1009.jpg

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF1013.jpg

The Sergeant.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF1017.jpg

And finally, my slightly repainted 3rd ed land speeder (with multi-Melta). I always had some problems with this kit. the sensor kept snapping, the socket joint for attaching the base kept breaking, etc etc. so after updating the colours a little bit (there’s still more to do with this one, and my LS Tornado) I decided I should give it an interesting thing to balance on rather than a bit of see-through plastic, so I dug out my old plastic trees, and a big base to put it on, glued, green stuffed a bit (to more organically link it to the base) and painted the tree with the following result.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF1024.jpg

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/DSCF1028.jpg

I didn't really pay all that much attention to the tree, as most of a person’s attention will be drawn to the flying shiny thing sat on top of it, and to be honest, it shows, you can see in the pics area's left unpainted, and areas where the paint was too thin etc but it gives the desired effect. (as do the orange thrusters...though the colour is off in this pic)

I’ll be doing another tree for the tornado when I get round to it.

ok, time for some fluff, and then onto things to come.

_______

warning, fluff imminent

A quick chapter colours image from the army painter (with some very bad GIMP (think free Photoshop) work)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/Shad0w_fury/WH40k/IronFurytroopwithpaintgunXD.jpg

This chapters history is shrouded, the records of its creation lost to the annals of time, or perhaps kept hidden, for reasons unknown. Some have suggested that when Chapter Master Azrael of the Dark Angels requested the creation of the Disciples of Caliban the High Lords of Terra took it upon themselves to create another chapter, from the same gene seed, to watch over the Disciples, keeping it secret from the sons of Caliban.

The first recorded action involving the Ferrus Erinyes was on a world named Orestes, where the local PDF and Imperial Guard Regiments from Valhalla were under siege by a force of Tau, who’s fast moving and powerful battle suits were giving the defenders little chance of retribution, or escape. The Erinyes battle barge, Heart of Hades arrived without warning, dropping, seemingly, out of the warp at a recklessly small distance from the planet’s atmosphere and disgorging its flotilla of Thunderhawks, and dropping its rain of adamantium tears onto the planet’s surface before moving into a position where it, and the two strike cruisers (Alecto ("unceasing") and Tisiphone ("avenging murder")) that arrived from deeper into the system, could combat the few tau ships in orbit, in support of the imperial forces.

The bright tears fell so swiftly upon the tau forces, and the shining warriors they disgorged fought with such skill, that the invading force was routed in short order. it was discovered later, once the tau had been thoroughly ousted from the world, that the Ferrus Erinyes elite Vanguard squad, entitles the "Wraith blades", had arrived via teleporter behind enemy lines, and moved stealthily into tau forces, to cut off the head of the serpent, literally in the case of the Ethereal, his face now locked in the expression of surprise that he donned before the veteran Argustus drove his halberd through his blue flesh. Other reports indicated that the Crisis battle suits that had been keeping the defenders pinned down had been attacked by one that could be kin, a shining hulk that tore through their ranks with claw and drill, spouting flame and thunderous shells at the enemy before rocketing skyward to crash amongst another formation.

Such strange occurrences as this warrant investigation, of course, and the Inquisition did not disappoint, they traces the Erinyes back to the world they called home, a strange world fraught with danger. Due to its strange orbital patterns, and the radiation emitting from the blue sun, one half of the world was covered in a perpetual freezing night, and was a desolate landscape on the surface, but beneath the ice and snow lay secrets beyond imagining, vast creatures and giant thermal vents can be found there, for any who dare enter, while the other is blanketed by lush vegetation, hardy plants and trees that can survive the poisonous atmosphere, and creatures that thrive in the harshest of environments, a perfect world to test new recruits, and to keep out prying eyes. From orbit the honoured Inquisitor Archaeus Marrun could see no sign of habitation, no sprawling fortress monastery, nor could his ships auguries find any signs of life.

Knowing that there must be life down there, and wanting to avoid being blasted by some hidden defence, the Inquisitor sent out a message to the void at large, hoping someone, something would respond. a crackle came over the vox as a voice, full of wisdom and proud bearing replied with a warm welcome, and an offer of a tour. Rare it is for any citizen of the Imperium to welcome the presence of an inquisitor with such offers of friendship. Rarer still for Astartes to welcome them without signs of hostility at their intrusion into their actions. Though the circumstances seemed strange, why waste such hospitality in refusal.

What he found on that world, however, was as mysterious as the chapter itself. Descending onto the planet’s surface, vox transmissions guiding the Aquila Landers pilot to a clearing, as wide as any landing pad, located in the very heart of the jungle hemisphere, though the Inquisitor was warned not to disembark upon arrival, lest the planets toxic environment harm him. Upon touching down onto the surface, a great shudder passed through the frame of the ship, and a lurching sensation, one which the inquisitor likened to a sharp fall, passed through the passengers. Peering out of the cockpit viewport, Marrun could see the ground rise up before him, before the light outside the ship was cut off, to be replaced with an artificial glow. Coming to a rest at the end of what must have been a long shaft cut straight into the planet’s surface; the Inquisitor was informed that he could disembark without danger, and that he was to expect the Commander of the Watch to be waiting for him at the foot of the ramp.

What followed was a grand tour of the less sensitive areas of the Erinyes’ Fortress Monastery, a vast vault, filled with ancient technologies, texts, and secrets. It was revealed to the inquisitor that the Erinyes had been operating from this location for quite some time, and that the Adeptus Mechanicus had been invited to study the ancient devices that filled the vault, with the caveat that they were not to remove any items, this caveat was enforced by the chapter masters own honour guard, who would thoroughly search any and all visitors, even if they did not notice.

When questioned why the Erinyes were so free with their secrets, they replied that they simply had nothing to hide from His divine inquisition.

(more later..maybe)

I also have a LS Storm and ironclad on the go, along with some termies and sniper scouts ^^

I think the guy earlier in the thread meant too many colours. And for your command squad I quite agree... Way too much going on for my eyes :P But I did chuckle at the Vanguard vet ;) Brilliant idea

They look less confusing in person, or maybe its just me...i dunno, in either case i've yet to field the newest editions so we'll see how it goes when i do.

thatnks for the comments, and i'm glad you like the vet-on-drone idea, it started off as a test model for a diarama that i'm thinking of doing, maybe at a later date <_<
