KeithGatchalian
I played in an awesome tournament last Saturday. 4 games, lots of people, outdoors. It was a great time, and I got to meet a really nice BnCers, Vash113. There were some other SW players I didn't get to talk to....I spent alot of my free time catching up with other local tourney players. I did have a friend come up to me and ask when did Blood Claws get Furious Charge...I asked him did he mean Berserk and he said no....they wolves had 2 extra attacks, at Str 5 and Init 5. For shame whoever you are for sullying the name of the Wolves! My list: This i an army that I've had alot of fun and success with. My only losses have come in objective based games, which I now see that I will have to gear my army for, as they are likely to be 2/3rds of all tournament games. RunePriest with staff, TDA and frostblade with WG BGs. WG's all had TDA and SS, with a LC, 2xAC, TH and CF. All had RC's, and all but one AC had WP's. Wolf Lord kitted out as above with frostblade and SS, 3 wolves WolfPriest with Runic Armor, SS and Frostblade, 3 wolves, healing balms. 1 15 man BC squad with 2 PW and 1 PF and 1 WG with LC 1 5man wolf scout unit with flamer and MB's, and a WG with combimelta and TH. 1 GH squad 6 man, 1 meltagun and 2 plasmapistols with WG with PF and combi melta in a drop pod 1 10 man GH squad with the same load out as above but no pod. 2 landspeeders I wanted to take 2 15 man blood claw squads, but I am missing a squad...gotta find it! Game 1 against Daemons, Annhilation/Dawn of War My opponent had 2 Keepers, 2 Daemon Princes, some fiends, some steeds, and a bunch of daemonettes. He went first, and his big daemons, fiends and steeds came in first. I kept my army all in reserve, and he deepstrikes in on my left flank. I then came on the right flank, and the game basically was him throwing Keepers and DP's at my WG Termies, and me killing them. His mistake was putting everything on the left and not the center, because he attacked me piecemeal. Game ends, I score 8 kill points out of a possible 13, he scores 1 KP out of 11 ( the blood claws.) Game 2 was against one of the players who went 4-0. He had 3 units of Killa Kans, some small buggies, and 6 trukks with 11 boyz and a battlewagon with a warboss and zogwort and some nobz. So....basically this was a seize 5 objectives game. 2 on the left, 2 on the right, 1 on the center. My plan was to hold the left, and contest the center and right. My termies moved towards the center left, the blood claws and GH's went to the extreme left. My speeders came on and hid, for last turn objective grabbing. My pod came down and killed off a buggy squad, but got grtozookad to death. As the game went on, my opponent refused to engage me, and by turn 4, I had the left, and was about to take the center when the 15 minute time warning was called. My opponent was a very very slow player, but not intentionally, and had we played through 6, I was sure I would have won, or drawn. As it ended, he held 3 and I only held 2. Game 3 was against a Tau player. Command and Control. We both put our objectives on the far right. This game was a simpler one....I simply moved almost everything towards his objective, and he shot at me, and when I reached his army....well....tau vs wolves, you get the picture. He did have 1 devilfish alive at the end of the game, so he contested my objective. However, again, he was a slow player, not on purpose, and I started to get frustrated at his 45 minute turns and my 10 minute turns. Towards the end of the round, I asked the organizer how much time and he said 20 minutes, while standing next to my opponent. He then started his turn, and then after I played mine, with almost no time left, ( I had to prod him several times during his phase) wanted to start another turn. He claimed he didn't know we were almost out of time, and would have played that last turn differently to try and get the draw. He could have moved a couple units of crisis suits over, in front of my wg's, my BC's and my GH's, who mostly likely would have won the assault and claimed it anyway, but who knows. Game 4......command and control, against orks. Well....this is an easy one.....he assaulted me on turn 2, and wore all my units down and shot up my grey hunters. Had my scouts come on sooner and taken out his lootas, I might have done better, but by the end of the game, I had rolled a 1 every turn for them. All in all a great tourney, but it was frustrating due to the slow players. I always groan when I see my opponent is A. playing a large army and B. is new to the game. It almost always assures that you get less points, and are out of the running in a tournament. Vash113
Hey nice to see your reports up. I'm sory you got so many slow players, all my opponents were either quite competent or at least didn't waste a lot of time and the turns tended to go fast so I didn't have nearly so bad a problem with that and all my games got to turn 5 or 6 just fine. You did pretty well despite the lack of the second Blood Claw unit, but I was wondering how you think you'll compensate for objectives in future? I found it impossible to risk leaving a Troops unit back in my deployment zone or out in the middle of nowhere to hold Objectives and had to risk a lot every time on trying to grab my opponents objectives. How do you think you'll deal with that in future? Also how did the Terminators fair overall? I have just a regular ranged squad but am thinking about adding a unit with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields for soaking up damage but am not sure if they're worth it. KeithGatchalian
I've always thought a single Black Templay terminator is the best, because he gets preferred enemy, furious charge, and with lightning claws, the reroll to wound. That being said, a unit of WG Terminators is the best in the game. Why? Because ( for now....I will miss these options...) You can give them all the storm shields, all a runic charm, a wolf pelt, and a varying configuration of weapons. What this means is, each can be an individual, so you can then allocate wounds on them singly, instead of grouping them. If you roll 4 dice at once for 4 terminators, the odds of rolling a 1 are higher then rolling 1 die per terminator 4 times. The only time I've ever lost the unit was to the ork player in the 4th turn on Sunday, but then, he threw the kitchen sink at them. 60 boyz, a unit of nobs, a warboss and a bunch of other guys.....and my characters started missing and not wounding....= hurt. I needed to keep away from the orks and shoot them with assault cannons and heavy bolters, and I needed my scouts to show up sooner. As for objective based games, I need a more durable unit to grab far ones then the landspeeders....Or find a better way to set up the board. Vash113
I see what you mean, but with 2 months till the new dex and closing it doesn't seem like a good idea to convert up a highly specialised unit of mixed equipment Terminators. Anyway it's nice to see you enjoyed the tournament too, I really hope SGI hosts more events, they did an excelent job organising and running the event. KeithGatchalian
I can do 3 assault cannons or cyclone missile launchers, a Lightningclaw, power weapon, chainfist, thunderhammer and powerfist guy. So I have 8. If the new WG plastics come out, I'll probably do a whole new unit. I'm hoping their options don't change too much though so I can use the old ones... I'm also hoping the option to put a pack leader in TDA stays..... If the new book wasn't coming out so soon, I'd do WG Bikers with SS etc....I would not have the 2+ save, but the speed would ensure I get into combat faster then the termies....
