Hal
I sculpted this for my chapter master but it's slightly too big to use, damn. Nevertheless I learnt a lot so it's not a complete failure. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/161/getahead.jpg While I have a camera with a macro I though I'd share this as well: http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/7527/largehead.jpg Again, its too large (Inquisitor scale) but it was my first so I though I'd start by making them too big before working my way down to 28mm. Expect more of my stuff (plus tutorials hopefully), I finally have a camera with a macro and I'm not afraid to use it! Brother Tuditanus
*drops ale-mug in stupefied wonder* By Russ' beard! Those were your first sculpted heads? For heads... Those are amazing... I hear heads are the hardest to do anyhow! Lovely, lovely work, and I am anxiously awaiting tutorials.. Just getting into GS work myself, so I could use some pointers. Marshal van Trapp
honestly? if i made a head that looked that good but it wasn't the right size, i'd scale up my WHOLE army just so i could use that head! (or maybe just the chapter master... the whole army would be a bit much) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175725-sculpted-heads/#findComment-2076501 Share on other sites
Dragonkin Arenis
I sculpted this for my chapter master but it's slightly too big to use, damn.Nevertheless I learnt a lot so it's not a complete failure. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/161/getahead.jpg Simple fix: Truescaling! That is a stupendous sculpt and they are one of the hardest sculpts to do well, so a lage cookie for you, my friend! Just keep trying at those sculpts and you'll get them perfect! :) Arenis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175725-sculpted-heads/#findComment-2077881 Share on other sites
Iron Phoenix
truescaling actually requires, if anything, smaller (not larger) heads, but these are pretty great for a first shot :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175725-sculpted-heads/#findComment-2077910 Share on other sites
Hal
Thanks for the comments everyone! For those interested I found this article to be a good starting point if you want to have a go yourself. Also my experience with 3d modelling is that a good texture can look good on a simple model so a lot of the fine detail is actually just pained on. Just keep trying at those sculpts and you'll get them perfect! Good advice, I'll certainly try!
