Cyrl Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 For a long time I've wanted to create a force of rogue iron hands - frustrated by the stagnation of the imperium's technology and the restrictions the chapter imposes on their aspirations for technical innovation. As they aren't traitors I want to avoid marks and cults along with deamons, I've toyed with the idea of justifying cult squads etc as the product of new technologies - the marines continuing to replace weak flesh, but I'm unsure if I could pull this off. With all of the dual lash lords and dual pm squads lists around Im unsure if the intended play style is viable. For 2k games I had in mind the following: 4x10 man CSM squads 2 in rhinos with meltas/flamers + of 2 with 2xplasma guns 2x10 man havocs 4 missile lanuchers each 3 "obliterators" These would either be "repentant" obliterators or robotic constructs. 2x8 man raptors 2 flamers each "deamon prince" wings Again a robot or augmented marine. The list isn't definitive and I only want to give an impression of my intentions, what do you guys think? chillin Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Love the concept. The cult unit I think you could use is "PM's". Xtra armor, bionics, storm shields, etc. fits in fine w/IH's. As to the list, 1st 2 squads are good, I use just that. the plaz squads are good too but really need rinos. 2X2 oblits are better then 1X3. Robotic constructs make WAY more sense then "repentant" oblits as oblits are totally corrupted by chaos. Not crazy bout the 2X8 raptors w/ 2 flamers each. If going to use as fast flamer unit you only need 5, If you have 8 you might as well make 1 a PW champ. I would do 1 of those 2 things and use xtra pts for termicide. Not crazy bout 2X havoc squads eather, maybe 1 havoc squad and use the rest of pts for something else. I like the DP as some uber flying dread. I would give him something though, at least MoK or doombolt (as a stormbolter w/ armor peirce ammo). Great modeling possiblities. send pic's whe done. He's the DP leading a pack of Fallen, so the army is very speed based: bikes, rhinos, some VDR "buggies" and a VDR Skimmer. I'm currently thinking of putting Tie Fighter-like wings on it and slap him on a flying base. I agree with chillin that repentant oblits doesnt work, coz they have pretty much sold their souls to chaos for the ability to do what they do. a cool concept to throw into the fluff would be that since they have thrown off the Imperium's oppressive laws and such on technological advancement and experimentation, these rogues could want to find out more about technology in the universe and create new and wacky things... free to indulge their urges where before they could not. e.g. the "oblits" could easily be a marine who controls a battlesuit-like armour. like what the ironclad is to regular dreads, in comparing power armour to termies. or perhaps the DP could be the old commander who augmented his body and power armour extensively with robotics, adding flight capabilities (jet-boosters on his feet :)) and pounding limbs/whirring blades for combat. kinda like if orks were able to produce something technologically reliable and sound xD i don't really know too much about the iron hands' play style.. but there's my fluff contribution i hope this was of use to you (: -Doosh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175800-techie-infantry-force-viable/#findComment-2079165 Share on other sites More sharing options...

IronWinds Posted August 15, 2009 Share Posted August 15, 2009 No demons, no cults, no marks..... Traitor Iron Hands would basically be Iron Warriors, there are not a lot of differences. Going by their fluff of course, no marks, no demons, no cults, etc. Here are some things I do with my IWs that may help you out some. I have two demon princes, one has nothing to do with this, he is really a price. The other prince is really a lord on a robotic battle platform. For fluff he was mortally wounded and opted for this instead of a dreadnought. I took a necron destroyer, stuck tomb spyder legs in the exhaust ports, and then mounted a marine torso and head on top of it instead of a necron. For weapons he has a giant robotic claw and a big demonic scythe. He also has spikes and such of course. Now I'm going to use plasticard and GS to make the platform more rigid and squared off so its more Imperial(or Chaos) looking and less necron. I'll of course add spikes to it again. Under 3.5 the platform gave him speed, now I have to opt with flight and I mounted sensors and such on it for counts as MoS(+1I) and warptime to show his greater awareness. For your DP you could do something similar. You want something big and crushy... that wouldn't be a vehicle and could justify having a DPs statline. If he has a lot of armor... go w/ MoN. He has a big gun of some sort, give him doombolt, wind of chaos, or MoT and bolt of change. Now other things I've considered doing now that the CSM book allows IWs to use cults... even though they are mostly unfluffy. Plauge marines... cyborgs. Thousand sons, shielded robots with small plasma weapons. Obliterator, battle droid, or small battle suit. Obliterators are similar to Tau crisis suits, just slower. And you could explain almost all of an obliterators weapons with one big plasma weapon(for fluff it fired rapid[plasma rifle], or full[cannon]), and an interesting laser weapon. Say the laser is better at short ranges and that explains your lascannon and melta weapons. all you need now is an underslug flamer on either of those weapons.
