Hfran Morkai
I've been thinking about the Long Fang pack to assemble from one devastator box for my pledge and for use in apocalypse as in my opinion they die too easily at the minute for me to use in standard games. I'm thinking of running it with two lascannos and two multi-meltas as this will be an anti-tank/MC pack. Basically I'm wondering if the multi-meltas are any good as originally I was put off by the short range but if they're sitting close to an objective in Apocalypse to provide support for the troops holding the ground the range isn't too bad when considering that dread/defiler gets within 12 inches and gets turned into molten slag. Your opinions please. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175805-long-fangs-with-added-multi-melta/ Share on other sites
warboy
just a note, multi meltas have 24" range. i'd say it's a good combo, as the lascannons can pummel the armour from long range and as you say anything that gets close is basically doomed. i'd consider swapping one of the multi meltas or lascannons with a missile launcher, as it plays a dual role of anti-tank and anti-vehicular heavy weaponry. Well cheers for the opinion. Well in Apoc I'm going to be running two Long Fang packs one equipped for hunting infantry and one as tank slayers. And these guys will be hanging around some friendly Salamanders normally. Wolf Guard Nostromo
I think the split fire option for Long Fangs makes them worth a go, but 24" is quite a severe limitation in my opinion. Its not too much of a problem on units which can move and fire, but on non-vehicle non relentless models, they can be a little out of the action. To be honest, Im not sure about your apocalypse idea. I think they are even more likely to get owned before firing in apocalypse, but I suppose they will 'slag' anything that gets close, particularly if there are some of those helpful green armoured fire breathers around... Hang on, hasn't there been a rumour about Long Fans moving and firing? :) Problem solved? Grey Mage
If I want a MM Ill put it on an attack bike or a Landraider. Longfangs were made for LR firepower... and I feel a MM wastes that potential. Alot. Maybe in the next codex... if they have relentless MMs will probly be one of the most expensive weapon options they get. But as for now.... 'taint worth it lad. Demogerg
a couple of Apoc games ago I ran 2 units of long fangs, one with 2 heavy bolters 2 MLs, and one with 2 lascans, 2 plascans. the HB/ML group was positioned a pit closer to nail the enemy infantry going for an objective, and the the LC/PC group sat a little farther back to get a better fire lane. the ML/HB group got targeted with a LOT of firepower early, and the 2 ML guys survived but ran, later on in the game a pair of krak missiles helped to keep 2 allied tact squads alive vs a squad of killa kans, they worked well as a fire maget away from our more important units, and they kept a scoring unit alive. definately worth it. the PC/LC group ended up wrecking 4 defilers (maybe soul grinders, i dont remember) killing a nurgle demon prince, and drawing some bloodcrushers away from an objective just from their threat of firepower. My opponents pretty much ignored them untill all they had left was those bloodcrushers, they worked brilliantly as well. In apoc Long Fangs are an amazing choice, in a normal game I would take them if I was all footslogging, but being mechanized leans my choices to land raiders and preds.
