Antman677
Hi everyone...heres a thread dedicated to my new deathguard army. For the time being it will only be modeling and sculpting...the painting will come later during our "A Tale of X Gamers 40k version" later on in the year. I decided to convert my daemon princes from the forgeworld plague ogryn models. Never really liked the existing GW or FW models. The ogryn was a little small so I chopped him up and pinned the various body parts with paper clips to make him larger...i forgot a scale shot but hes roughly twice the height of a black reach space marine... http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DPsculpt_001.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DPsculpt_002.jpg I wanted to pose the DP as if he were stalking some poor guardsman...what do yall think of the pose? Khrangar
I think the pose is ace. He reminds me of Grendel from Beowulf a bit. Iron Phoenix
Fantastic start. Now without paperclips! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2078266 Share on other sites
Antman677
Phew finally got some work done the demon prince... this here what I have so far... http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_03.jpg scale shot http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_04.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_05.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_06.jpg So I have the basic shapes blocked out a bit with some details added. I'll smooth down the scuplting and add more details next... I was planning on sculpting an armored shoulder pad on his right shoulder and a metal gut plate as well.. Guyver3x
Looks great thus far :P Purely aesthetic comment, drill some holes in the awesome blade. I mean, its personal preference, but I think it looks more nurgley:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2089704 Share on other sites
Antman677
@Guyver3x: hmm interesting...you mean drilling holes straight through the blade? or just enough so the blade looks pitted...do you have any pics of a blade with holes looks like? Alienerd
I think he either means drill holes as the symbol of nurgle, or small craters for rot. Either way I'm blown back by how good that is already, the pose is great especially Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2089755 Share on other sites
Guyver3x
I do mean all the way through, in the nurgle symbol or not. There are a few examples in the legio mortis bit of the forum and I think joker has one on his plague grinder in the pca lifecycle thing. But a few pitted areas look good, though it can be easy to overdo (remembers completely ballsed up sword attempt) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2089890 Share on other sites
Antman677
@alienerd: i remember seeing you on the waaaaagh! @guyver3x: hmm i jus checked out joker's plague grinder's sword with the holes drilled in...actually kinda looks cool...i might give it a shot...if not im not lazy to drill through metal :) well made some progress tonight...as always C&C welcome! http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_07.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_08.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP1_09.jpg so his flesh is mostly done...a few touch ups and then its off to the BS for some armor sculpting... and heres a preview of Mr. DP#2...felt like stretching his wings a bit.. :) http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/DP2_01.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2092933 Share on other sites

meta-ridley
They look like the Forgeworld Tyranid Warrior wings. And really cool models. I prefer them to the usual vision of "fat bloated thing". These look more deamon prince-y and less mini-GUO-y. Good job. Sersi
Oh these are nice! Easily the best use I've ever seen made of the FW Nurgliszed Ogryns. They're just so much cool Nurgle stuff being done, these days. I'm almost tempted away from my beloved Slaanesh. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2093819 Share on other sites
Antman677
@Xavier Targhost: meta is right...FW tyranid wings! @meta-ridley: thanks man, ya i totally agree with you...i envisioned my DPs to appear more combat ready...ready to bring rotting death to those around him rather than a a dude that looks like he spent too much time drinking beer and eating chips watching tv in nurgleland... @sersi: wow that some high praise coming from you. I've been following your slaneesh army log, I love your sculpts and dynamic poses, keep up the good work! Hetacondries
Awseome man awseome. He looks great and the pose is excellent man. Shortsonfire79
I think the pose is ace. He reminds me of Grendel from Beowulf a bit. Khrangar Thats exactly what I was thinking! The Greenstuff detailing you've done is fantastic, and the change from last month to this is crazy good. The Chain on the fist looks really fitting. Great job. D:< @Shortsonfire: thanks man! im pretty stoked about both the DP and my wife haha...glad you like the chain thing...was getting a lil nervous while sculpting the chainmail...i think the chain helped to cover up some mistakes haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2159574 Share on other sites
Animerik
Excellent work! I never liked the plauge ogrns in the first place but with these convertions I must say that I am impressed. Good sow and I really like the posé on the first one. Antman677
@ Animerik: I totally feel you...when i first saw the plague ogryns only the first one really caught my eye. but after converting it i had to get the other one too (the one thats flying). Not a fan of the skinny arms it comes with so hopefully ill be able to make the conversion look good..we'll see. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2159703 Share on other sites
Antman677
Okay...finally finished a titan (comission piece)...time to work on me deathguard... after a couple iterations I finally think i found a color scheme that i like for my DG... this is a pretty quick rough go at a paintjob...i just wanted to see how the colors looked together http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_test_01.jpg Looks like im going to have to make the tan more white, and will have to highlight the green more... maybe wash the gold with some blue/purple? ill also be giving the PMs an oil wash to give it a more weathered look beyond paint chips... what do you think? Ufthak
Very nice the marine, I like the Pre-Heresy-style colours. How did you do the effect of rust / flaked paint? My brother's also doing Death Guard (Linky) and he'd really like to borrow your method. My guess is you used salt...or maybe you found an easier way? Good work! Keep it up <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2174587 Share on other sites
Antman677
@muskie: thanks yea...it needs more highlights...but i didnt want to spend too much time on it. the colors look good to me...so i think i will go with the theme @ ufthak: nah no salt just hairspray...your bro can borrow it from me cuz i borrowed it from phil stuckinas (so?) from the FW masterclass book...i really recommend it. just undercoat layer 1, hairspray, and then whatever you want on top...if you want a lot of paint to come off then dont paint the top layer too thick. if you want smaller chips, then thicker paint on top. Animerik
The DP with details looks drop dead sexy good work on that ;) The colour scheme looks good but I would reconsider the blue eyes, they look far to "nice" maybe try a different colour? Also teh chipping is nice, add some rust streaks with vermin brown or so to make it look like the rust have been there for a while. Really liking the scheme and waiting for more Keep the rot up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175851-deathguard-conversion-and-other-tidbits/#findComment-2174710 Share on other sites
Antman677
@Animerik: thanks! hmm...what color would you suggest? i thought about doing green but then there would be too much green overall on the mini. i thought a cool color for the eyes would look good thats why u chose blue...do you think purple would work?
