Doomleague
Hi, I went to the shed and got ye old wheel. Yeah., I hear you, the green light effects are easier (as my Hordes army will show with there buggy green eyes). The blue and the yellow white are triads, so, close to a complimentary color. I also agree the orange would wash out when doing a light effect. The blue/green pops more than the pea soup green, too, imo I am eager to see how you continue to convey motion in that second daemon prince. RudyHuxtable
(sigh) Stop copying me, Antman. Sheesh. I was thinking a scheme like this, but maybe i'll make em look more like the Purge, instead. I liked that scheme too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175870-deathguard-army-conversions/page/2/#findComment-2138883 Share on other sites

Antman677
Okay...finally finished a titan (comission piece)...i got to work on me deathguard... after a couple iterations I finally think i found a color scheme that i like for my DG... this is a pretty quick rough go at a paintjob...i just wanted to see how the colors looked together http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_test_01.jpg Looks like im going to have to make the tan more white, and will have to highlight the green more... maybe wash the gold with some blue/purple? ill also be giving the PMs an oil wash to give it a more weathered look beyond paint chips... what do you think? Antman677
any other comments on the color scheme? would like to get some feedback before i commit a squad of PMs to a horrible scheme >_< my initial thoughts are... 1) a lot more highlights on the green (bring to a yellower green) and tan (bring to white) color areas 2) not sold on the eye color yet...but cant think of another color...was thinking about red but i dont the PMs to look like christmas elves.. 3) thinking about making the backpacks and bolters a darker metal color...black, drybrush gray, drybrush tinbitz, wash brown and purple ink thanks for your help! Sharkai
looks quite nice, like the eyes. I'd do something to the green, a bit lighter maybe with highlights as you said. I like your deamon prince a lot! <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/175870-deathguard-army-conversions/page/2/#findComment-2176450 Share on other sites

Antman677
@Sharkai: Thanks, ya im gonna stick with the blue. I'll make the glow from power weapons and plaz blue too @SpudMKII: Hokay...im gonna stick with it since you think its awesome! Here are some WIP shots of my PMs so far... Im gonna refine the blending...add more subtle shading, dont think theres enough contrast on the white areas... Will be doing the trim a dark bronze like the backpack and bolters... Will pick out the paint chips and scuffs with some highlights... http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_WIP_04.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_WIP_05.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_WIP_01.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_WIP_02.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii57/antman677/Deathguard/PM_WIP_03.jpg C&C appreciated as usual! CorpseMarine
Looks great! The chips looks realistic for sure. I agree maybe a little more contrast but I'd like to see them in a little better lighting to say for sure. When ever I do chips like that it always looks like I just painted it on top. It never looks that good. Can't wait to see the finished army! Antman677
@CorpseMarine: the secret is hairspray! i got this technique from the model masterclass book from FW but its been in use for a while in the scale model community. 1) Basically you paint the model in the color you want your paint chips to look, wait for paint to dry fully 2) Apply 3 coats of hairspray, wait to dry fully 3) Then start painting the armor in the color scheme of your choice, wait to dry 4) Then run some warm water and stick the mini under the water and scrub with a toothbrush. The water will dissolve the hairspray loosening the top layer of paint creating random paint chips. if you look at the paint chips there are a lot of angular edges. so if you need to paint on additional chips, make sure you paint some hard edges on them and they will look more realistic, good luck! Sersi
Those are some gorgeous looking marines. The conversion on that daemon prince, is unique and very well done. I also love the color scheme especially the blue eyes. Its not something you'd expect from chaos, and its a rather haunting effect. For your rust effect are you airburshing the rust layer or just using a brush? Antman677
@ Muzza: thanks, i'll have an update in a couple days! @ Sersi: Thanks Sersi! i wasnt sold on the eyes at first...but i suppose they do look a bit haunting...ill make them paler to maximize the effect. I'm airbrushing the brown undercoat on in three layers (scorched brown base, P3 bloodstone highlight, foundation orange highlight) then i also airbrush the basecoat on (commando khaki/desert yellow and catachan green) and do a rough blend with a brush. then scrub the mini and then refine the blend with a brush.
