Armies: Space Wolves vs. Emperor's Children

Mission: Seize Ground - 4 Objectives

Deployment: Spearhead

Emperor's Children won first turn and decided to take it. I then reminded him that he would have a first turn of just looking at an empty table and he let me take first turn. Despite rumours to the contrary, I can be nice at times.

Space Wolf Forces:

Wolf Lord - Frost Axe/Storm Shield

5 Wolf Guards - TDA AC/PF, AC/LC, LC/LC, TH/SS, SB/PW

Venerable Dreadnought - AC/DCCW/Extra Armour

11 Blood Claws - 3xPopwer Fists

10 Grey Hunters - 2xPF, 2xPP, 1xMelta Gun, 7xBolters

10 Grey Hunters - 2xPF, 2xPP

All in Drop pods

Emperor's Children:

Lucius The Eternal, Chaos Lord - TDA LC/LC, 5 Termies, 10 Chaos Marines in Rhino, 5 noise marines, 2 Obliterators, 10 Daemonettes, Vindicator

This was the table set up:

Ok, not a great shot, but hopefully you get the idea. The green Flags on the left, Metallic thing to the rigth of middle and the green die hiding amongst the ruins on the right are the four objectives.

Space Wolves 1st turn:

Venerable dread comes in and immobilises the rhino

Blood claws land and shoot up Lucius the Eternal. I think this is where my opponent learnt his lesson about keeping ICs with a squad...

The grey hunters with the melta gun rock up next to the vinidicator and wreck it with a well aimed Plasma Pistol shot.

All in all, a fairly decent first turn.

Emperor's Children 1st Turn:

The Chaos Marines decide to come out of the rhino and face the Allfather's Wolves.

A shot from the Defilers battle cannon took out most of my Blood Claws and shooting from the Chaos marines left me with only two at the end of turn 1 D:<

And they were pinned. Unfortunately I had also pointed out to my opponent that his noisemarines could see them (Ok, I was being nice since it was only his second game in 15 years and he hadn't thought to look sideways down the board. I won't be doing that again!) and they took some out as well. Ouch!

On the bright side, hiw aspiring champion killed himself when his Plasma Pistol got hot and he failed his save :-D

Space Wolves 2nd turn:

Sadly, no reserves made it onto the table this turn.

My Grey Hunters moved around and took out two or three noise marines in shooting and then assaulted them and slaughtered all but one of them.

My venerable Dreadnought would have preferred to charge the defiler, but it was too far away, so I shot at and charged the chaos marines. Killed 3 or so but annoyingly they held.

My Blood Claws regrouped...

Emperor's Children 2nd Turn:

No reserves for the oathbreakers either.

The defiler shot one Blood Claw down and charged the other and killed him ):

More Chaos marines were killed by my VD, the last noise marine was despatched and my grey hunters consolidated towards the defiler.

Space Wolves 3rd turn:

Finally, some reserves come in (Grey Hunters)

Unfortunately they failed to kill the defiler (but they did manage to shake it I think) and the Grey Hunters with the melta was just in range with the melta but nothing else.

It should be noted here that either we both forgot (I don't play Chaos and he's fairly new) that Defilers are daemonically possessed and can ignore shaken/stunned results OR my opponent just didn't use the battle cannon, I can't really remember...

Emperor's Children 3rd Turn:

Still no reserves for the traitors.

Defiler scuttled away and either didn't shoot or didn't do much damage with his autocannon/flamer.

Space Wolves 4th turn:

No Reserves this turn

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3432/3813672023_6c3f3cf902_b.jpg

All grey Hunters head outwards towards the defiler but fail to damage it.

One squad charge and kill it. the ensuing explosion takes out a couple of guys (shockingly).

Emperor's Children 4th Turn:

Finally his terminators make it onto the field

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2512/3814483308_2d4288e176_b.jpg

As does his obliterators:

The termies fail to make much of an impression on the Grey Hunters and the Obliterators hurt, but fail to destroy the other grey hunters.

Space Wolves 5th turn:

Finally my Wolf Lord deigns to show up on the field

The Grey Hunters on the right made to attack the Obliterators

And then time was called, sadly...

The pub we were playing in (Cross Gaming Club on Tuesdays) were closing and we had to pack up.

Some time around 3rd or 4th turn my opponent was ready to concede but we kept going.

Technically it was a draw since neither of us had units close enough to any objectives.

Had we finished, I'm pretty sure I would've won either throughkilling the rest of his guys or by moving a squad of Grey Hunters to one of the objectives nearby...

All in all a good match.

Nice report and a good, erm, almost win :)

I suppose a quick way to learn that you should always put your ICs in a squad (unless there is a very good reason not to) is to have a load of Space Wolves turn up in pods next to him and slaughter him with (badly aimed, they are Blood Claws!) bolt pistols etc :D

Nice report and a good, erm, almost win :P

Thanks :-)

A shame that I was more focused on getting to the enemy and tearing him apart than with keeping the objectives.

Oh, and looking at this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_eleganza/3...57621893722125/ I kinda wonder if I wasn't close enough to actually claim an objective...

If my Bionic measuring eye is working correctly, and the calibration is sometimes a little off (my Iron Priest likes a drink), that looks like the well known distance 'not quite close enough'. It is more commonly known as 3.5 inches

Oh, and good pick up by Vash... playing in the pub... Great stuff.

Great report! This is probably the most clear and easy to follow Battle Report I've seen on the B&C for some time. Your army is also starting to look pretty decent. I really like the Dreadnought, as well as your friend's Rhino. Keep up the good work!
