New chapter project

Logaan

Recommended Posts

Just recently returned to painting GW miniatures, been away from the hobby for about nine years. Me and a mate are doing this dual project, bouncing ideas off each other and it seems to be working, inspiring each other to stick at it. I'm a notoriously slow painter but am planning on getting this force to tabletop standard as soon as possible. They're a whole new chapter; The Emperors Light. I came up with the concept for the chapter when I was writing some fluff one day and it just stuck as a pretty cool name. Not decided on any markings, icons etc yet. Hopefully keeping a log here will help me get the thing finished

looking good, a bit more definition to the faces wouldn't go amiss - and then I would actually be godsmacked by your talent. amazing work so far, i hope to see a project log of this very soon.

by the way, whereabouts are you in Cheshire? anywhere near manchester?

you are being watched...

I think it may be my less than impressive camera skills/settings but I'll be adding more soon. Was far from impressed with the scout models heads, I have completed the whole squad now but the heads have really let me down, very disproportionate with odd mouths and jaws. Maybe its just me.

From a village just outside Chester dude.

A lot of people use the 'camera skills' excuse, but in all honesty I agree with DeffWolf - these would be some brilliant minis if the faces had more depth. Give them a dark flesh-tone glaze in the recesses and they will 'pop'. Keep it up.

A few more days toiling in my lair. The test pic for my Tactical squad is a funny one; I already have a Tactical squad painted up but I'm cannibalising a squad I painted in 2000 and I like this scheme better :)

Another update from the Dungeon, managing an hours or so painting a night, not ideal but I'm gonna stick at it. Half way through my second tactical squad; bit of a change of scheme half way through with the shoulder pads now black with blue trim. For insignia etc, I'm keeping it simple - Left pad will have the company in roman numerals, in this case III, right pad will be the first initial of the squad leader plus squad number, in this case 2L (Brother Sergeant Laureus)

Currently primed a Marine assault squad and Terminator assault squad (droolworthy mini's the new Terminators...) but I'm away with my younger prettier half this bank holiday weekend so they will started next week.

Another update, second tactical squad finished bar dry brushing/flocking the bases. Started my Terminator assualt sqaud today and with the speed I'm painting at currently I imagine they'll be finished about Doomsday...

they look very nice indeed! a few little points though:

first, i can see a few mold lines. i know its a pain, but its well worth getting a file out and sorting them out, can always touch the paintwork up again afterwards!

the freehand is well done, although generally the left shoulder will display the Chapter badge, if they're Codex followers anyway?

personally i really liked the white trims on the yelling marine, although i do prefer the black insets. perhaps as all of them already have white heads, you could use the white trims idea to distiguish vets and/or sgts?

anyway, looking good!

A belated update due to work/social commitments and an unfortunate accident six weeks ago whereby I managed to break both my arms

This is the first thing I've painted since getting back to my old self;

I'm 2 Terminators off completing the initial 1000 points and hope to post pictures of the completed force over the weekend.
