Why go to Games Day 2009?

Hey all,

A friend from my local club is debating about not going to games day even though he wanted to go but has just somehow suddenly lost interest. I was hoping some people could throw out some awesome reasons why to go to GD 2009, personally i've tried several things like awesome scenery, enjoyable day out etc.

But he says he could spend £30 on something better, i even offered to pay if he didn't enjoy it. He was super enthusiastic about going and i want to try bring some of that enthusiasm back, any positive suggestions appreciated!

Thanks

Crimson

Sold my GD model for more than the ticket cost, so I guess I'm going for free, which is alright for me!

I haven't been to a GD since it was held in Derby (late 80s I think) so am just looking to be impressed with the big dioramas and stuff they usually build.

Has your mate been to a Games Day before? If not this is a good reason to go to at least once. ;)

This is one of the reasons why I want to go (that and Space Wolves and the Rat men for the square based game) but I'm waiting on my mate to see if he wants to come (doesn't know if he can fund a trip).

I went last year and to be honest it will be a long time till I go again. For all the hype it is just a load of people walking around a large hall talking about warhammer. There are participation games but to be honest I dont like crowds and there is nothing there really that I could not get from the Internet and my LGS.

If he has lost interest its probably because he has spoken to someone who has been before.

This is the exact same reason I am avoiding it this year. Been last 2 years and it was really the same old thing to be honest. Plus, if I wanted to stand in queues for 2 hours I would just go to the bank. Only reason I went last year was to get the sweet sweet FW goodies before general release (which I did) and the new SM codex before release (which I didnt)

So yes, this year I am avoiding it and spending the money I would have spent on it to go to the 2 Ultramarine meets ;)

That's what I'm expecting to be honest and my mate is an ex-GW staffer who has done Games Day, so we both know what it's like. But I haven't been to one for about 10 years so it's more the novelty value for me than anything!

well i appreciae the answers and i have to agree with you even if i don't like it, i mean i've been the past two years and the first time i went i was super excited. The second time i went i was excited the night before but when i actually got there it was kind of a drag, walking around for 5 hours.

I'm not to sure if i'm going now either, i can pre-order wolves with 25% off when they're released, so i was only thinking about buying the codex if the mass of people don't get one before i have a chance.

Cheers

I’ve been the last two years also, and it really is walking around for 4 - 5 hours just looking at random stuff...

I’m tempted to go this year, but only to purchase Codex: Space Wolves, and then get it signed, but spending £30 just to do that is kind of pointless.

What’s your mates’ reason for not going?

It sounds to me like he has a pretty good idea of what Games Day is going to be (fail), maybe you should think about not going too. Save yourself the hassle (and money), and besides, like you said, you can just pre-order the Codex early and get a 25% discount!!

Cheers

(lolz ;) )

If you are going just to get some new Space Wolf stuff, then I wouldn't go to be honest. You'll only be paying £30 to get the new stuff a week early. If you are going because you enjoy going, then go.

I don't know as that sounds a fairly cool reason for going! :(

I'm still thinking about it but I'm waiting on my mate to see if he has the cash. Mind you I'm speed painting some Daemons for a tournement for the Square Based game so I might be strapped for cash! ;)
