A changing of the ways.

Recommended Posts

Well brothers, it seems that soon the old ways will inevitably give way to new, as they often do, and with that change many of us will lose a few of the traditions we hold dear when sending our brothers into battle. I think it is only right to voice here the concerns we have about the changes that will come to our armies, be it to have our worries sated or simply as a way to observe what we are losing just as we celebrate what we are gaining. I think it will be a good way to give us more perspective in this time of great transition.

Personally my two main worries are for my Wolf Guard and my rune priest. With the potential changes to the Wolf guard it might be possible that the option of a large group of mixed terminator-clad brothers charging into battle with their wolf lord might become a less appealing option, or at least rendering my current wolf guard less appealing.

Likewise I also have concerns about my rune priest, as with the roumers of 'riding wolves' my Rune priest may not have his bike as an option. Granted it might look interesting to hae a rune priest on a riding wolf, but that would require ditching what is perhaps one of my favorite works.

Change is hard brothers, but let us just hope we are all stronger for it.

My greatest concerns are the loss of power weapons on standard infantry which then gives me a solid number of power weapon attacks and a fist on the pack leader.

I fear that with the loss of armouries our wolf guard will lose a lot of their customisability.

Runic charms, I feel we may lose them

And I fear for the Rune Priests powers, I liked stormcaller so long as they clarify it as striking first.

The Wolf Riders worries me the most because I see it as silly and unfluffy.

Yes, we are Space Vikings but we are not silly...

We're actually Space Barbarians, we take from other cultures too, it's just that the Norsemen are the biggest influence.

And we are silly to a degree, but we still get to whip butt!

I just don't see us keeping all that goodies from the current dex. They are all suppoused to be gone (not even making it out of the rumors, but looking at the general way the things are heading currently).

I will really miss WTN and runic charm. maybe they will be given to certain SC?

I wouldn't worry about the wolf cavalery. they make you really fast, and probably will boost your stats ;)

regards

i guess i will be the first to say wolf pelts. they are pivital in my army as a way of getting more attacks. i feel we will loss the power weapon/fist and plasma heavyness that we have now.

there are many rumors that concern me. mostly the wolf riders. unless they are mechanical and count as some sort of bike, i don't like the idea one bit.

i am more excited about some of the changes, but if it is going to be the guard, i will have a hard time making a new list that i like. i am also going to miss be a one of three space wolf players at two stores.

I am most concerned that it will be a "GW cash grab codex" devoid of fluff and character. With units whose rules are tied directly to thier value in real world currency.(wow I sound kinda disillusioned and bitter at GW lol ) I would hate to see the great community you guys have established ruined by waves of "Army of the month" players

Worst case scenario you can all play 2nd edition like me ;)

i would likw to add to this...

it doesn't sound like it, but if the codex is a cash grab move i would be really pissed. the SWs are imho one of the most fluffy armies in 40k

I think the biggest concern surrounding this rumor is that the models will look stupid. After all, this is the 41st millennium we're talking about? Why Wolf when you can Bike?

Because a wolf is a natural predator with a cunning mind, whereas a bike is an unthinking machine. Also a wolf can maneuver effortlessly through the forest and over obstacles, while bikes do not.

I think it's just a case of people having to learn to adapt to this new 'alien' relationship between a Space Wolf and a large Fenrisan wolf. It's not been seen before and people will always nay-say when they hear the idea about it.

Honestly though. I think it will be really interesting. A real clash of cultures, the Savage Fenrisan Wolf on which the Chapter was developed, and a Ceramite clad 'soldier of the future'.

1- I worry about having an excess of PW and PF armed troops models rendered useless by losing those options.

2- I worry about the coolness level of the newer minis (esp. the wolfriders, but the whole new range in general, too)

That's about it. Otherwise, everything I've heard so far sounds like awesomesauce.

bikes are annoyingly lacking in the teeth department

My biggest concern is I was planning on playing a tournament the month that the new codex comes out.

I share your concern. Theres a 1800pts tourney just two weeks after the release date. At least I can count on facing only old wolf players, since getting an army of that size isn't easy in just 14 days.

Which brings me to my biggest worry about the new release. Power gamers who get a SW army just because it's efficient, not because its simply the best in every other way :D

You can't blame people for wanting to play the wolves. They are and will ever be just the most awesome army there is. Of course there are these guys who always pick the most powerful new armies, but i believe these will eventually either realize how stylish the wolves are and begin to love them or they will move on to another army when something with more/new shiny toys is released.

So far have not been overwhelmed by the 2 pictures we have seen so far of Blood Claws and Grey Hunters. I would have presumed that they would have picked the best looking poses for previews so this is a concern if the poses we have seen are in fact the best.

I am also woried about the idea iof wolf riders. It could end up looking really silly. I might end up simply not picking them as an option.

I will be dissapointed about the loss of Leman Russ Exterminator but have had chance to come to terms with news by now. Nit sure about the rumoured Assault Cannon Land Raider- could result in SW being labelled as beardy / cheesy by those who had reason to fear the power of assault cannons.

Cheers

I was able to find rules posted online. It's a Rogue Trader Tourney and the rules state that you have to use a new codex if it has been released more than one month before the tourney. So I should be okay to use my current codex. Just wish it wasn't WYSIWYG. Now I have to try and find a TL Autocannon for my Leman Russ or a LRC to replace it with.
