kiwitexansfan
I've got my feet wet in 40k by purchasing this box...... they were on special and I couldn't resist. Quietly excited about actually starting my force. Next step getting an AOBR for the rulebook etc and inducted SM. Just out of curiosity, is this guy + retinue a decent HQ choice? Marid
Welcome! You've come to a great place to talk and learn 40k! Coteaz is a neat character but you don't often see him played because he is tooled for CC and one of his psychic powers is obsolete. People generally play Inquisitors for ranged firepower and with mystics to protect against deep striking. That being said, there's nothing wrong with using the Coteaz model as a generic Inquisitor Lord. You can even equip him with a Psycannon or other weapon because Inquisitor models do not have to be WYSIWYG. You can model an acolyte lugging his equipment around for him. I seem to remember reading in the codex, that henchmen can carry the Lord's wargear, does that mean that they have to carry their stuff WYSISYG + anything you want your Lord to use? number6
Just so long as the wargear your I-lord has is modeled on one of the henchmen, you're OK. Of course, all your henchmen have to be WYSIWYG as well. ;) One thing I've seen is for people to create little servo-skull or cherubim models that are toting around the psycannon or icon of the just, or what have you. Those servo-cherubim aren't "real" models in the retinue per se, but it satisfies WYSIWYG modeling requirements and looks cool, too. FWIW: A very easy way to give Coteaz a psycannon is to just give him a GKT terminator psycannon arm swap. And finally, welcome, Brother! :D I strongly encourage you to check out the Online Resources topic pinned at the top of this forum. A veritable treasure trove of useful information to the budding DH and WH player. FWIW, if you have no interest in fielding GKs, you should instead play Space Marines as your base army and take DH allies, including your I-lord. You can get ISTs and an assassin or daemonhosts, which are all that remains in the codex if you're going to forgo the Malleus Chamber Militant. Meanwhile, playing a Marines army will give you far more options than are available for induction into a DH army.
