Flawless Host

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

I don't post on B&C much but I thought you might appreciate this. When I was doing research on how to paint the Flawless Host I found a couple of threads about it here with some nice models, but nobody seems to have come up with an easy way to paint them. So here's my solution. I won't be winning any Golden Daemons with this army (or any other, really) but they look nice on the table if I say so myself.

I've learned a while ago that painting (to tabletop quality, anyway) is all about tools, not skill. So I started off by buying the entire range of pinks from all well-known manufacturers until I found a good match for the official colour scheme.

The P3 Carnal Pink is a perfect match for the brighter pink of the armour. So is Citadel's OOP Pallid Flesh, but Carnal Pink covers waaay better. You'll notice that my models aren't quite pale enough... that's because I can't shade worth of ****, so I just gave them a thin purple wash. But I assure you that raw Carnal Pink is the way to go. The darker purple of the armour is raw Vallejo Model Color Purple #044. Shade and highlight to taste.

Clean, crisp, candy. Yes, candy heads and bases. <_<

They're well done but I must say they are such a drastic change from what we normally see. Definitely well done. Heh, they take to battle with the flawless appearance!

I think the bases being the same color as the marines is a bit much.

How come you didn't paint the helmet grills a metallic color?

Thanks! Yeas, the bases aren't done yet. They'll get very plain gray urban bases to make the models stand out more (perhaps even... too much.)

They're also missing decals and banner art. I'll do these things on the whole army at once, but first I have to paint the other 40 of them, ouch!

Looks good, nice to see another flawless host.

Personally with mine i avoided going with colors the same as the book. I went with a darker purple (necron abyss and warlock purple) and a flesh tone that is more biege than pink (elf flesh + white). I'm also using a lot more metallics and trim, which admittenly takes away from the purple flame stuff, but i really like silver and gold. Mine also have black trim on their left shoulder pads to show their ties to the EC.

Thread necromancy ZOMG!

So how do things look one year later? Not too shabby. I'm actually done except for the bases, but I am sooo sick of these guys right now I'm just gonna leave them for the time being.

I'm happy to see an other Flawless Host army, they're a really cool warband.

I also like the pink you chose & your conversion work.

The whole branch is coming really well together, the look is really unified.

I almost started to build a FH army, then tended towards Angels of Ecstasy, finally picked the Violators.

Yeah, I know I'm an opportunist, but will include some AoE noise marines to have some pink still.

By the way I also recommend to do the bases in different colours, plus what I'd do is to paint their 'soft armour' sections black.

An alternative could be to give those areas a thicker wash of purple / blue or even brown.
