hwd Posted August 25, 2009 Share Posted August 25, 2009 Hi all, I'm new here but I thought I would join to share my first Space Marine army building experience. I have numerous other armies but no marine armies yet! I'm making this arms as part of a tale of 40k painters on another site so updates may be quite sparse but I hop to get a unit finished each month and will post WIP and complete pics as I go... My chosen chapter is the Rainbow Warriors who were a GW made chapter from way back when. Why choose an almost forgotten chapter with a bit of a lame name i hear you ask? Well, I recently came into posession of a whole bunch of very old (RTBO1) marines and similar aged terminators. I fiddled with a list and bingo I have 1500 points of stuff. A quick search later and I settled on the Rainbow Warriors. Hopefully through painting about another 40 of them i'll have got quite good and so i'll come back to this guy and re-do it. I'm pretty sure that the Deathstrike are a 'newer' chapter than the Rainbow Warriors and GW just recycled the symbol. In fact looking at the colours it seems like they just took the rainbow from the rainbow warriros and re-named them Deathstrike Rainbow warriors original scheme: Rainbow Warriors Hwd Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

NemFX Posted August 31, 2009 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I hope you do them justice. My Enclave army has a Rainbow Warrior in it, and it's nice to see other people do them up. A suggestion, if your interested, the Rainbow Warriors are usually patterned on the Aztecs, which works pretty well, but it works even better if each squad has an animal theme. Uhh, is this a bad time to mention i didn't have breakfast and im really in the mood for bacon? :) Anyways, very nice! Cool to see an extremely old chapter like these guys get resurected and thrown back into the game. I wish I could see all the older chapters pop back up into 5th edition games, ah well. I've found it definitely takes a few goes to get the chpater symbol right, but it's worth it, looks great when you've got a whole squad of them together. I thought about the transfers, but I never really get on with them, and I like the sense of staisfaction when I've hand painted a squad of symbols. (even if I can still see spots of frustration when I look closely ;) ) Maximum respect to Philip S for the Aztec theme - only problem is greenstuffing all those feathers! Another minor issue is the scale, these guys are tiny compared to a 'modern' space marine, still they do say that old people shrink and all that...
