Hfran Morkai
I've been thinking as my company is going the mechanised way (5 Land Raiders plus various supporting units, unless GW kill off raiders in our new dex, unlikely) I though it would be prudent to invest in an iron priest, I know at the minute he is not exactly the most capable mechanic but I feel that he may become more adept at field repairs in the new codex provided he still exists. Thing is, how to transport him? A rhino seems a little unlikely as he's a master of technology and a razorback still seems a little flimsy even thoiugh some of the new weapon configurations are tasty. So I decided on a Land Raider but I want something to stand out and have decided on something from Forge World, just which one? The unit will probably be 5 models so the Helios is a possible, the Prometheus seems like and interesting idea, or I could even get a pre-heresy Land Raider for him to roll around in. My current planned Raiders are as follows: 3 Crusaders and two standard pattern. They will move (hopefully!) in a flying wedge towards the enemy whilst being full of troops to take those vital objectives and so I need to keep them safe, hence the priest. I feel his Raider will fit between the two standard raiders towards the rear of the wedge. I would like your opinions on the Helios, Promethus and the standard pattern to help me decide. Fluff considerations are a must, performace comes second for me. And a barre; of ale for any insightful replies. I've checked the updates and we are allowed to use the Prometheus and Helios. Cheers. Lord Hjamlar
I never liked Helios idea, but it may probably work, while Prometheus got only better - 12 re-rollable S 5 shots + minuse to cover saves, which is rahter useful under current rules, except for takin' up an elite slot, which in Wolves armies are usually always used... Please also notice taht it's no stated that we can take Command Rhino  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177113-a-land-raider-for-an-iron-priest/#findComment-2094059 Share on other sites

pstj
I'm guessing it's five only because you can't get more in one foc? :teehee: To stay on topic I'd say go for anything expect the basic lr/crusader variants and keep it unique to your army. But do not in any case let your Iron priest ride in anything less than a lr! After all taking a fully mechanised force on field requires maintenance and maintenance, so it pays to keep the one guy who can provide it safe. That was denied as an internet rumour by Phil Kelly, sadly. Fiddlesticks. In that case I'd say the prometheus is definately the best choice. Gives the right elite-esque and powerful feel, while being rare and interesting. Hfran Morkai
Just out of curiosity...how many points in this army? About 8000 points of apocalypse goodness, should have stated that so force organisation charts are no issue for me. As said, it's an armoured company with almost half the number of Land Raiders the Ultra's have, yes I'm a Raider whore. I'm liking the Prometheus currently, it looks pretty funky too. And I'm sure the Iron Priest will have a use in the new dex, at least I hope so. Welcome to the club :D . I've got five now too and was disappointed to find out about the assault cannon build being a rumour. I like the idea of the Iron Priest having a distinctive variant - I would love to try a Helios but I agree that a prometheus is probably a better bet. Out of interest, have you used all five in an apocalypse game yet? - I've still only ever fielded three at once in a 6.5k battle against 2 of my mates combined eldar. I ran them over and sometimes reversed back for a second go too :D. The formation ability to ignore damage results is awesome... El Scotcho
If you get into the new IA update, the Helios variant is optimised for anti skimmer work, because its top missile mount is also on an aa mount, so if you face a lot of IG players or Eldar, that might be a worthwhile option. That being said, the Prometheus pattern is way cooler looking, imho, and fits better with what you said you run already. It'll give you a boatload more anti infantry fire, with 4 twin linked heavy bolters, and I believe its supposed to be a command variant so it gets some special rules dealing with that, plus it looks cooler, again imo. Hope that helps. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177113-a-land-raider-for-an-iron-priest/#findComment-2097280 Share on other sites

However upon review I'm leaning owards it because I love the look of the missile launcher and I'm thinking the Iron Priest would also enjoy riding to war in a machine that makes a big bang.
