Champion of Chaos?

Maby the next Crusade Abbadon throws out, he either finally takes Cadia, or dies and we can finally get someone better.

Now, we know the Primarchs are too busy doing little errands for their masters, being Magnus and Angron the only ones to publically attack the Imperium, so maby an Undivided Prince or new Commander?

I can see Huron leading a massive Pirate and Renegade Armada.

I also speak for 4chan on Khârn leading a crusade, he really is a great guy.

This topic is open for far left suggestions and random crap, but please don't start a flame war here.

I think there will be a new Chaos Champion and he will be from the 30th Founding. Somebody on C&C did a really in-depth research on Cursed and Dark Founding Chapters. Using the Chaos God numbers 6+7=13, 13+8=21, 21+9=30. 30th Founding will be the sum of all the Chaos God numbers. Abbadon can only stay as the favored for so long. He has to succeed eventually or he will lose favor.

I would like to see someone new when they re-do the Chaos Codex.

A Daemon Primarch is really the only commanders with enough influence to lead a united army out of the Eye big enough to seriously treathen the Imperiuem.

Keep in mind the 13th Crusade was a success. Cadia was it all but secure in Chaos hands, and much more importantly, thousands of fleets have made it out in Imperiuem space, that will cause wars for decades and centriues to come.

Seeing how rare Black Crusades are, GW would have to move the setting into M42 and flesh lots of things out before introducing a new BC + warmaster (and I don't see them do anything like that). The 13th BC is pretty recent and can still be considered "the next Black Crusade". In other words, we're stuck with Abaddon forever and ever.

Apart from that, my vote would go to warmaster Davroth of the Word Bearers (from the Apocalypse rulebook).

I was wondering about this the other day, do things in 40K ever actually change? Now I've only just started playing after like a 8 year hiatus

Maybe Eldrad dying, and inclusion of some new armies ... but nothing every really changes does it?

A special character Daemon Prince could be cool (even Abaddon upgraded)? I'd like to see more characters buffing other units, but not in a risk vs. reward kinda way. Khârn giving his unit fleet or something... along those lines

Eye of terror wasn't all of a "succes". Imperium crushed chaos in space. So chaos never really did break out everywhere and ruin the galaxy. Was more like "We almost took Cadia....we almost got out of here....Abbadon couldn't deliver what he said...AGAIN.....but in overall went pretty sweet YEAH!"

Any of you start playing when the eye of terror campaign ran? I see a few '08 and '09 where the campaign took place in 2003.

It was up to the win and loss ratio of the players in the worldwide campaign, just like armageddon. Chaos lost by a wide margin in some areas where we needed to win big.

It was the players losing that lost it. Cant blame it on some fluff some dude writes.

Ah, yes, Abbaddon being considered a failure, that old Internet chestnut.

No more spotlight on renegades please, keep it real. Legions for life.

Yeah, that is true. My vote if Abbaddon bites the dust.

War... war never changes.

Abbaddon won't take Daemonhood except over the very ashes of the Imperium (3.5 'dex, postulation by an Imperial scholar (who got *BLAM*'d for EXTRA HERESY), but damn it sounds cool).

I definately reckon that a member of the Word Bearers would gain the mantle of Warmaster if Abaddon was to "unfortunately" die.... I mean it would just be fitting, as you could class the WB as the "original" chaos legion (i know i do) and the excessive amount of worship they offer the dark gods will surely lead them to be the new dominant legion.

I think the best candidates for new Warmaster would be Kor Phaeron or Erebus.

Granted Chaos did not claim everything but the fact remains that the Imperium lost big time in the campaign. The disorder players were better organized and outperformed the imperial players throughout the campaign. The space lanes were one of the few zones where they stood their ground but overall Chaos was the definite victor. Heck, GW even had to remind imperial players not to rely on the stability of the space lanes in a meta-game reminder in the fifth newsletter in which "they should take the initiative at a planetary level, or fall"

Darkness has fallen across a hundred worlds, and for the defenders of the Cadian Gate, the pure light of day now seems but a distant memory. Though the forces of the Despoiler have been denied the ultimate prize of the fall of Cadia, Abaddon’s hordes have gained a foothold upon the worlds of Man, and none can see them being repelled for many years to come. Abaddon and his council of three have outmanoeuvred and out fought the forces of the Imperium at almost every turn. Corpses litter the battlefields in their millions, yet millions more still stand beleaguered, against a foe that knows no mercy and whose only goal is the utter destruction of all who stand before them. The Thirteenth Black Crusade has broken the Imperium’s hold upon the Cadian Gate- perhaps forever. The raging tempest of the Eye of Terror has surged forth, engulfing those worlds lost to Chaos. The Imperium no longer bars the gate to the Eye, only a small channel remains through which Imperial Navy vessels may pass to bring aid to the desperate forces upon Cadia.

At the close of the Thirteenth Black Crusade, Cadia still stands. But she stands alone, a failing beacon flickering against the encroaching night. Total war is come to Segmentum Obscurus, and all hopes of repelling the invaders are dashed. The Imperium must now consolidate its grip upon those worlds it still holds, and prepare to fight a war that will not end within the lifetime of any of its combatants. While Cadia still stands, humanity has reason to hope, but Abaddon the Despoiler has finally achieved what he has failed to do on twelve previous occasions, over ten thousand years- he has breached the Cadian Gate, and none can now hold back the inexorable tide of Chaos unleashed upon the Imperium of Man.

Cadia

The bleak moors of Cadia are reduced to a barren, crater-pocked wasteland, blasted by orbital torpedoes, super-heavy artillery and the footfall of titans. The Vilklas and Andur defence lines have collapsed under the relentless pressure of a million frenzied cultists, traitors and mutants, and the Cadian High Command has been forced to relocate to Kasr Gallan on the far side of the Caducades Sea. Though the Imperial Navy is in control of the inter-system space lanes, Chaos rules the skies above Cadia since the orbital defences fell in the opening days of the Black Crusade. The defenders of Cadia are now deployed around Kasr Gallan and throughout the Wastes, resolute that not a backward step shall be taken. The order is given- ‘stand at Cadia, or damn the Imperium of Mankind to the depredations of Chaos for all eternity’.

The space lanes

The Imperial Navy has fought with courage and vigour throughout the war, ruthlessly taking the battle to the enemy wherever it encountered them. Admiral Quarren has been hailed a true hero of the Imperium, for his masterful defence of the space lanes was all that stood between survival, and utter defeat for the Imperium. Though Cadia is besieged, the Imperial Navy commands space, and is able to offer support to beleaguered forces on the ground. The only question is whether the rapid redeployment of almost the entirety of Battle Fleet Gothic, along with a substantial proportion of Battle Fleet Solar will leave the Navy dangerously overstretched elsewhere and unable to maintain the level of operations required to hold the line at the Cadian Gate.

Note how it fails to mention that Chaos was crushed in space (or elsewhere for that matter).

I fail to see why everyone is always so eager to replace Abaddon. He's done a fine job so far. And he'll be around for a long time still.

But if someone has to replace him, it'll have to be a new char or a Daemon Prince of high rank. The current CSM Heroes just don't fit the bill. Nor any of the other canon chars from the novels.

@ Lay - I do know about the story. I was quite active during the Eye of Terror campaign I just like to see Abbadon as useless cause I hate his modell so much. You think GW quite atleast update his model when they release a codex since he is the one who can sort of unite chaos.

Erebus would be awesome to have actualy. Or if a Chaos legion codex comes he will be represented for the Word Bearers.

I don't see Erebus, neither Kor as leaders of that rank, they're more like the cogs that keep the system rollin' on, counselors, like Mournival members.

It would be a Word Bearer, but neither of above.

....or a Black Legionnaire, it would be fitting for Abaddon to pass his legacy to another ascendant.

@Important: Yes, the original model is, but combine Abby with the new Termie Lord, and awesomeness is guaranteed.

Going off topic just a bit - as a few of us agree that a Word Bearer would take over the mantle of Warmaster, its got me thinking if the Word Bearers and the Black Legion hate each other? I know that theres rivalry and hatred between all the legions but is the hatred/rivalry between the WB and BL really immense? And do you think that the Word Bearers long for the day Abaddon is cast down as Warmaster?

Anyway back on topic - I dont think that the torch would be past on to another Black Legionnaire, the only BL person that i think could have possibly taken the mantle would have been Sorcerer Lord Ygethmor, but as we know he died on Medusa V.... so i think it would still definately be either Erebus or Kor from the Word Bearers.

Yep i agree. I'm going to try that, it should be great! ^_^

Well if Abby is killed, ascended or just does not partake in the next one, a smaller Black Crusade or just non Abby affiliated one might perhaps be unleashed by a Daemon Primarch. It has happened before after all that a Daemon Primarch went on a stroll and caused quite a lot of trouble.

I cant belief that Abbadon or anyone in the Black Legion will give the title of Warmaster away to someone from a different Legion.

Afterall Horus was the Warmaster and he was the best Primarch of the best Legion around, they wont give the title away.

I think they will do everything that needs to be done to keep the title in the Legion.

I think they willd oeverything that needs to be done to keep the title in the Legion.

I agree on that. But if Abbadon would die in a battle and the other legions found out. There would be a massive conflict, the other legions would go nuts on the black legion just like after the horus heresy. Warmaster is a title every legion would want! ^_^

True though of course others may content that right with the Chosen One of Chaos gone.

Though overall it is a moot point. Abby won't die, at most he'll opt to become a Daemon Prince.

You got some good points there guys but in the end I think he wont die and he will just keep on doing Black Crusades until he finally breaks past Cadia.

Yep. Thankfully for the Black Legion players Abby has 'fluff protection'. If he breaks through Cadia, the results fluff-wise are huge.

But they won't be eager to kill him either. Even though a lot of people on the forum hate him regretfully, he is an important fluff element.

Like to point out if someone killed Abbadon off, they would need to kill off more of his Legion to take Warmaster.

Also, Cadia is contested, but technically in Imperial Hands, where as the Imperial Navy for 2 massive sectors is completely stretched, making it very easy to slip by, like sneaking, not full force engagement, and Eldrad is dead, and Abbadon still has his Black Stone Fortresses.
