New IG FAQ clarifies IG induction

Good to have a definite answer (though you could argue it should be in the WH/DH FAQs, but they don't like writing them I guess), even if it's not the "best" for us. That's how I always viewed it anyway to be on the safe side so no skin off my nose.

Thanks for the heads up 6 :D

I'm not a fan of this faq. It's something of a 'Dr. NO!' faq, intent on shutting down some of the more shenanigany concepts that goes a little too far into areas without any precedent.

Astropaths not stacking is a little odd.

The good points (relatively few) - we can take Al'rahem (and Chenkov?), and we can definitely load Grey Knights into Valkyries...and that's about it. No Bastonne (darn it!). And we get both sentinel types as an option.

Looks like I may be going with an IG base, DH allies.

You didn't get to the last page then.

Grey Knights are okay, Terminators are not. There's a definate difference ;)

While having the Veterans and the enhanced battle tank options, it's not as bad as could be really. It's nice to get a solid answer and list in any event, and with the enhanced rules for Platoons, will we really notice the lack of Armored Fist squads? They also clarified the Sentinel issue, so all in all I'm not too dissappointed with it.

Honestly, it's not that bad, and it could be a lot worse.

With the only unit option lost being the armoured fist squad, I'm surprised by all of this negativity.

We get Platoon with all the bells and whistles so those heavy weapon teams sure are nice.

We get access to both types of sentinels.

We still get our leman russ if you want it.

I hadn't actually thought of the idea of using Al Rhem in my platoons until now.

A mechanised platoon flanking for a SoB army could open up some nice opportunities.

pro :

- Decent FAQ resolving quite a lot of the IG interrogations (seeing the previous ones it's quite an accomplishment)

- sentinel squadron clarified in induced units

- GW seems to remember inquisition exist !!!!

con :

- FAQ that limits choices and don't really give new ones (no IG vets, no penal legion, no LR squadron)

- no orders outside IG (not that they really were useful, but that make platoon even less attractive compared to vets)

- No cheap cost unit to unlock the 2 troop choices requirement if you want to play full mechanised

EDIT : I'm not really sure platoons are so marvelous like Eltnot said. HW teams are very fragile, so you need to take a good number of them to make for the initial loss after enemy shooting. More IG points means less sisters, thus less faith points.

Sadly i was expecting this eventually. The DAY i got my dirty hands on the new guard codex i shot off a list of questions to GW, there response was much the same as the FAQ posted now. The 'ard Boys FAQ made me happy on the inside but i knew it would only be a matter of time before GW came down and squished the goodness that was Veteran Squads and Leman Russ tanks (Vanquisher for me mostly).

Must say, this is wonderful.

Hooray for GW! ;)

Never intended to induct anything else than a standard LR anyway, intended to get some sentinels, and a platoon just for sweet lascannon fire. (And possibly something else)

Now I can suddenly get the special chars too!? o_O

Extra wonderful.

Armoured fists wasn't a loss, they don't exist any more... How do you lose something you don't have?

Wonderful, just wonderful...

Notice that from how I see it a platoon squad can be of 12 models if you get a heavy weps team.

Two other guardsmen may form a heavy weapons team armed with one of the following:

10+2others=12

EDIT: Got informed that this doesn't work that way... I blame my foreignness!

Hooray for GW! ;)

Cheers!

Yeah, I don't feel too hurt by the clarifications.... they seem to be a good compromise, and hey, its official! I'm kind of shocked in regards to the fact you can take "unit upgrade characters", I'm assuming then you could take upgrade characters from the marine dex as well then. That's kinda cool...

Outflanking Guardsmen could provide an interesting wrinkle to DH lists. Overall, I think the strength of the Platoons is that you can get the new cheaper, more awesome Chimeras and stick a Las/Plas squad in there for some nice AP2 firepower out of a pill box sitting on an objective. That and the firepower the Chimeras themselves bring is non-trivial. I think a couple of LRs supported by a bunch of light tanks and infantry sounds pretty awesome to me.

seems fair to me, especially like non-stacking advisors, having a few of those were ridiculous on drop pod armies or other all deep strike/reserve armies
Good Sir. How did you manage to get Astropaths in the same armies as your Marines in any game with reserve rolls?

this is not what it says: it says replace two other guardsmen... you can't replace something that is not there. You have taken the sentence out of context and twisted the words, good thing we live in whole different countries caus i wouldn't play you.

Check my EDIT. :)

Well I can't be perfect... I'm not English to begin with, and have misinterpreted some stuff... Both for the good and bad of me...

But meh...

EDIT: Looking back I noticed that my EDIT to my previous post was GONE! I'll add it back in right away...

Cheers!

I think he meant that IG Advisors subtracting from their opponents' reserve rolls made Drop Pod/Daemon armies come on so late (6+ on Turn 2... eww) that it was like fighting half an army the entire game.

i did indeed mean this :), seeing those across the board basically means you have to footslog or hope you can win 1vs2
