GlauG
My GF had a game against a Necron player at my local GW the other week, and while she won by forcing a phase-out, it was a pretty frustrating game in lots of ways due to the sheer amount of firepower that got wasted on the Monolith. Given how hard it is to fit Lascannons into a WH Army (which was Sisters + an Inquisitor), does anyone have any good ideas on what to use to pop one? About 40 Exorcist/Inferno Pistol shots failed to even glance over the course of the game, as well as a Seraphim Squad full of Melta Bombs, and even though that's abnormally bad luck, it does feel a bit pointless when there are squishier things that those S8 AP1 shots could have been put to use on. To add insult to injury, her Orbital Lance Strike ended up only hitting the thing once, despite it hugging the terrain the strike was keyed to for half the game (with that said, the same lance strike ended up taking out the deciding Necron Warriors with an attack they couldn't "We'll be back" from, but still...). Am I missing a good trick besides Inq Land Raiders? I know it;'s a little easier for DH due to the GK Raiders and Dreads, but still, the problems must be similar. Does it just boil down to "ignore the monoliths"? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177598-whdh-and-necrons/ Share on other sites

Eltnot
Given that An exorcist can only hope to glance along with any melta weapons we can carry due to the special rules of the monolith, the simple answer is to ignore it. On average, you have a 1/36 chance from a given hit with a melta weapon or exorcist that it will destroy the monolith. The only time you can hope to destroy it really is by allying large amount of heavy weapon teams in a Imperial Guard platoon. The best method for killing Necrons is via close combat as models run down are not allowed WBB rolls. A Canoness or Seraphim squad with Eviscerator are both good options for accomplishing this. jeffersonian000
I went up against a non-Monolith Necron horde army recently in a tournament with my pure GK list. There was no way I could get a phase out in the 5 turns we played; too many 3+ saves and not enough raw dakka for my knights. The only upside was that kills due to my lascannons did stay down, but at 6 shots a turn, not enough staid down (WBB). Alanter
The best method for killing Necrons is via close combat as models run down are not allowed WBB rolls. This is right. I had succsess everytime i could manage to get close to them with my grey knights. They are though, but that is an advantage. It is unlikely that they flee in the first round of combat. You want that, because killing them in the secound/your cc phase will give you the option to assault again. Necrons are having a very hard stand against three Land Raider. Driving up close without those persky melta guns and lascanons is pretty always a win! ---> If they use the mantle of darkness (or whatever that deepstrinking-around-thingy is called) a inquisitor with mystics comes in handy. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177598-whdh-and-necrons/#findComment-2099999 Share on other sites
number6
Does it just boil down to "ignore the monoliths"? Yes. Quoted for truth. Never ever ever ever ever ever shoot at the Monolith. It just isn't that dangerous. Always always always always always shoot at "Necron" models and aim for phase-out. If you do that, you will be neutering nearly all of the monolith's shooting as it will force the 'cron player to TP 'crons through the portal to secure WBB rolls. Make the monolith the albatross around the 'cron player's neck that it really is. Monoliths are points wasted. They give you an easier target for phase out, so go for it! If you have access to GKs, use them! They have better shooting than 'crons and they clearly out-assault 'crons as well. GKs >> Necrons. Brother Swas
If you can get your dreadnaught (If you took one) In close combat with the monolith, it will down it. S10, never needs more that a 4+ to hit? You'll be doing some damage. Focus Fire against necrons. A Necron doesn't get wbb if, at the start of his turn, there are no models of the same type standing within 6". So try and wipe a squad off the board, don't spread fire out. Most necron lists lack firepower beyond 18 inches. Immortals and Destroyers are pretty much it. Stay 19+ inches from the warriors and pop shots into them. Whenever you can assault, do so. Space marines with one attack and initiative 2 win few battles besides tau. They lack ap3 besides the monolith as well, so deepstriking powerarmor is only a risk near a monolith or in the middle of their entire force.
