madscuzzy
It has truly been a while since I have last done something like this... work has been taking a lot of time. Anyways, I couldn't resist doing one for space hulk. For compo sake I decided to do the DOW2 weapon arm locations, but heck, marines are supposed to be ambidextrous... Here is the larger version. http://scuzworks.com/SL40K/ART/BA-termi3.jpg Here is the base sketch. http://scuzworks.com/SL40K/ART/BA-Pencils.jpg :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177690-ba-banner/ Share on other sites

Retributis
madscuzzy has madskills. Amazing picture, although the paint over of the stormbolter seems a bit rushed compared to the rest. madscuzzy
Thanx...:) Retributis, you are right on the stormbolter. I usually leave secondary focal points messy/vague, so to not steal too much, but in this case I might have left it a bit too rough. Have fixed it...:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177690-ba-banner/#findComment-2100778 Share on other sites
Inquisitor_Lensoven
do you have any sketches of scrapped designs for the banner? i'd be interested in seeing some of those too. DV8
Nice piece, lovely atmosphere, clean lines and painterly style. I love it. My only issue here is with the left storm bolter arm. Outstretched like that, both the arm and gun should follow the same perspective so the arm braces for recoil, but they don't in your piece. Imagine holding your arm outstretched with a gun in hand pointed straight forward. Then tilt your gun up 30 degrees and fire. You would break your wrist. Same principle here. Retributis
It's an astartes, he laughs at the mere concept of recoil :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177690-ba-banner/#findComment-2101053 Share on other sites
Zeller
That and the fact that if the muscles stay firm in the armor the weapon and armor will not budge one bit. DV8
Oh fair enough I don't doubt that the armor will compensate for it and he'll feel nothing different. I'm just saying that, with what I know on anatomy, it just looks "weird" to me. madscuzzy
DV8 you are right. While it can work, it shouldn't be an excuse to not fix. :D While the marine can probably do it, his natural instinct is more likely to get into a natural position to fire. Hope this is better. :P http://scuzworks.com/SL40K/ART/BA-termi4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177690-ba-banner/#findComment-2101258 Share on other sites
Master Toddius
I think he looks great, Scuzzy. Your abilites to play with light now has become very good. Tha shadowing is excellent except one little part for me; the purity seal on the chest is shadowed a little to heavily IMO. It draws the eye down from the face a bit too much. I would play that back a bit and incorporate a little more red area on the torso, which couldn't hurt because of all the chest emblems. The face is dead on and and I love how the powerfist and targeters/sensors came out as well. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177690-ba-banner/#findComment-2101287 Share on other sites
madscuzzy
A fair enough point. Probably along the bottoms, where the contrast is great. Toned it down a bit... Pig Of Sparta
A faultless piece of artwork that I have shamelessly pilfered to use as my desktop back ground. As I looked at it though I started thinking; should he not be flipped horizontally, so his storm bolter is in his right hand? Please don't take this as criticism of the actual artwork as I have no issues with it this is more of a minor 'fluffy' niggle on my part and I suppose technically marines are ambidextrous so it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I know that the banner at the top of the B&C homepage wouldn't work if he were the other way around, but I flipped mine and think it looks a little more natural. Drudge Dreadnought
The helmet isn't working for me because of the size issues. In the original picture his head is bumping against the top of the head alcove. The helmeted head is somehow being the same size as his real head, which doesn't make sense. It works if you havn't seen the helmetless one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177690-ba-banner/#findComment-2101767 Share on other sites
madscuzzy
Enlarged the helmet a bit. Ripper.McGuirl
Lookin' rad, Scuz. Do you block in the color with a multiply layer and then paint over top of it, or do you just rumble right in with opaque brushes?
