Griddon
Hi all. A while since I have posted here. Just thought I'd post my first combat squad for my next project, the Imperial Hawks 10th Company. This force is being put together as part of a new competition here in Australia. Run by myself and another tournament organiser, the intent to promote new 750 Point 40k modelling diaries aligned to Judgement Day 5, a 750 point 40k Tournament in Melbourne. My force will be competing with the other TO for use as the Gumby on that day. C&C welcome. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0012-3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/ Share on other sites
ToberiousTheValiant
Pretty good. I like the colors. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2104112 Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
Nice colors and setup. That powerfist throws me though. Poor sergeant looks like he's got a serious case of ape-shoulder. dood515
As said that powerfist is annoyingly awkward, you might have got a better look by cutting the fist just before the elbow and gluing it to a scout arm cut just before the elbow. Great painting though, i really like the colour. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2104971 Share on other sites
Griddon
Thanks for the feedback folks. Yes, in retrospect the powerfist does look awkward... Not sure if I can rectify now without major work. I've since painted quite a bit. Here is a few more pictures of the force to date. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0057.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0058.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0064.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0066.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0067.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0060.jpg 750 points should be ready later in October and hopefully 1200 ready for a tournament in December. Brevik
Yes, in retrospect the powerfist does look awkward... Not sure if I can rectify now without major work. I wouldn't worry about it too much, I reckon anyone wielding a power fist that size is going to look a bit awkward in anything less than full power armour! I agree with everyone on the colour scheme, my only (small) criticism would be that the metalwork looks a bit too bright and shiny - but that's personal preference rather than anything being "wrong" as such. Nice clean paint jobs though, they're going to look very striking on the table top. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2131953 Share on other sites
Griddon
And now for some Termies. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0108.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0109.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0110.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0111.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2149178 Share on other sites
Griddon
Oh, and... Yes this is a 10th Company force but as much as I wish the 10th alone would perform at tourney level, I can't rely on them entirely so the 1500 lists rely on a solid component of scouts, inc bikers, LSS etc but the recon elements are calling in harder hitting drop dreads and deep striking termies. An Angry Marine
I love this force, Griddon, great job. I especially enjoy the work on the company commander, though I'm sort of unclear where he's from ( I think he's from the company commanders pack; which was released way back when Apocalypse came out). Again great painting and mild conversion work. -Mac Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2254173 Share on other sites
Asrech
Very nice! Great quality in the painting, and what really sold this for me was the extra effort put into the bases. Good job! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2254303 Share on other sites

Validar
your HQ guys are really awesome. I like the way you paint gold, really shiny. The color is a bit bold, but that might just be me. The Emperor's Champion
Nice stuff. This has to easily be the most Hawk Turquoise paint I've ever seen applied to something that wasn't Swooping Hawks. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2254679 Share on other sites

Griddon
Thank you all for the kind comments. My HQ is made from the masters of the chapter box set. Only minor conversion work on the left arm to add the 'wing' (taken from the DA helmet wings, filled, scored and folded over the pad) and a bolt pistol with a few purity seals. The idea is that this guy is either a generic captain in low points games or a counts as Khan in higher points games. However, for my 1500 list only the Libby gets a run. Hawk Turquoise is rarely seen on large surfaces and I have never seen a marine force in this colour. So, it was worth a try. I didn't really know how it was going to turn out but the first test squad of scouts sealed the deal for me. I have 1 land raider to paint and I did then promise not to buy anything else. However, I am hoping to put a 2nd Company force together later and this will include a counts as Shrike, 10 Assault Marines, a 2nd company drednaught and 2 squads of Tacticals with Razorback transport. I also have a command squad but I'm not sure I really want to sink points here. What do you guys think? Anyway. A final shot of the 1500 list assembled. I'll be taking this to Melbourne in Flames in April. Our tourney scene is a lot softer down here and the emphasis is mostly on fair, balanced and non WAAC lists so I should be ok. Bit concerned about my low model count but I've been in worse situations before  http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0007-10.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2255314 Share on other sites
Death Spectre
Nice job. I particularly like the unified appearance on the bases, such as between the scouts and bikers, which really ties the army together very effectively. I recognise the dreadnought base with some additions. How did you produce the others? Alternatively, where did you purchase them? Griddon
Thanks for the interest in the bases. Capt. Lysander
I really like these: the smoothness and cleanliness of your blue, which are light on the eyes. Griddon
Hi all. Well, it's finished. the force is ready for it's first tourney at 1500 points in April. Finished with time to spare which is pretty unique. Not much to update beyond what is already pictured but I did create a banner, a display board which I will picture later and an objective. Edit - pictures included for display base. Cheers. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0003-9.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0001-11.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0006-10.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0008-9-1.jpg http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll233/Griddon/DSC_0011-9-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2302496 Share on other sites
David the Despoiler
I'm extremely curious, where did you get the parts to make that road? Plasticard or did you find some kit? Otherwise, I love the look of this army. Judging by how quickly you painted it, I can tell you are fond of this painting scheme, and what more can anyone ask of you? Also, model count wise you seem to me to be larger then most Marine armies (I know it's larger then mine!). Griddon
Hi there. The road is made by the same technique as my basis, just larger. The link to that tut is further up the page. Of course the crater is a standard GW one. Chris. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/177972-hawks-of-caerulean/#findComment-2306518 Share on other sites
