Neth_Oni
Hi folks, been quite some time since I last visited this forum and last time it was with my nurgly infestation. I've been busy with work, school and other projects as well as my nurgle marines being practically finnished allready. About half a year ago I decided to make some use of my aobr marines and this is where I am at the present. A successor chapter of the Ultramarines by the name of thré Red Fangs (or the Big Red as they are mostly referred to by their local imperial guards) from the planet Feuer in a system close to Dimmamar. They were once strict followers of the Codex Astartes, but their being close to obliteration in Abaddons 13th Black crusade and their timely rescue by a contigment of the 13th company of the Space wolves chapter has led the new chapter master to make drastic changes to the chapter. They are now what you could call a Space wolf wannabie or rip-off. As such I use Codex: SW instead of the vanilla marine Codex and I'm strongly anticipating the soon-to-come new codex :P Here are some pics of what I have atm: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/04april_Robin.jpg A bad quality pic of them all assembled during the lunch-break of a combat patrol tournament ( I used them as 13th company that time) http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/storm_claws_1.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_bsquad_1.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_asquad_1.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_cpt_2.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_cpt_1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/ Share on other sites
Lord Rao
I like the dark grey scheme, but for some reason I can't shake the feeling that many of them are showing bare plastics with just dashes of paint on the details. Might just be me, or the photograph... :/ Is your HQ wearing a red baret? What's the background on your Chapter/Company? I'm intrigued! Love the combat shields. They evoke a very distinctive Highlander/medieval Scottish feeling; I recently visited Scotland and they have a strong Battle of Culloden imagery IMO. Am I correct? Neth_Oni
can't say I know much about Scotland. I've never been there (though I intend to go there some day in the future). The shield have been painted with the Wikings ceremonial shields in mind. and yes the captain is wearing a beret, my first try on one and it turned out a bit too big, looks like one of those water bags they used when struck by a cold in the past. I do have a little bit of fluff, it's not much at the moment but here it is: Regiment name: Red Fangs aka. "The Big Red" Composition: They are a "flesh over steel" chapter which prefers to take the fight to the enemy up as close as possible and won't use any more vehicles than a few transports and their venerable dreadnoughts. It is built up of 10 companies of about 100 men each just like most other space marine chapters, however their squadstructures differ a bit. They don't have nearly as much tanks and other support vehicles as others but make that up with the use of trained combat wolves, similar to those of Fenris. Chapter master is Nidhugg, the oldest of all in the chapter. Chief librarian is Skoll, unlike the master being one of the youngest and most eager in the chapter. There is no Master of Sanctity. Origins: They come from the only habitable planet in the system of the same name, Feuer, close to the system of Dimmamar. Originally they were a late successorchapter of the Ultramarines, and thus they have inherited a relatively flawless geneseed. They are masters of Feuer, but work closely with the planet's own Imperial guard forces and most times you can see a combination force with both elements from the Red Fangs and the Feuer guard leaving for the distant battlefields. In it's very young stages the chapter was assigned a small sector to defend during Abbadons' 13th black crusade and there they encountered the Plague guard Chaos space marines. The task was out of their hands and they were close to annihilation, if it had not been for a host of warriors of the 13th Space wolf company! The battlehardened and cunning warriors of the Space wolves made short work of the Plague guards 4th and 6th companies, making the rest of them retreat back to join up with Abbadons main forces again. But the encounter made a deep impression on Nidhugg. So deep that he ordered the complete change in chapter doctrines and tactics to resemble those of the Space wolves chapter. But due to restriktions from the High council on Terra he couldn't change everything but enough to make people doubt who their predecessing chapter is. They even managed to trade some Fenrisian wolf younglings to start breeding their very own combat wolves. Actions of note: None, yet... As for that allmost sprue-grey feeling I'm guessing you are mostly referring to the 4th pic? Because that pic caught many of my friends attention for them to look a bit to grey. Since then I have painted the eagles yellow like the others. As for the armour it's painted first an vallejo equivalent to catachan green, then a mix of that color and codex grey and finally high lighted with codex grey so it's not the most elaborate way to paint power armour but I'm not much of a painter either. Bit more skilled in playing, if I may say so :) Thanks for noting it out though :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/#findComment-2105043 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
So, with the new codex coming soon and there is a tournament nearby I thought that this would be my last chance at playing the old wolf codex. So I decided that, in about 3 weeks time build and paint space wolves up to 1750pts. It's quite a big project considering I had about 750pts painted before and I still need to go to work and school, nut I'll try! The army: The entire army is built from bitz and unused marines, space wolves and chaos marines and thus I was quite restricted as to what I will be able to field on this up-coming tournament. Here's the list, with pics on how the unit looks atm and as I progress I will exchange the wip pics and hopefully I will soon have only pics of finnished squads :tu: <HQ> Wolf Lord Pts: 164 Unit size: 4+1 Frost hammer, Bolter, Wolf pelt, Wolf tooth necklace, Frag grenades, Meltabombs, 4 Fenrisian wolves Wolf guard bodyguard Pts: 164 Unit size: 5 4 ccw, 1 pw, 5 storm shields, 5 bolt pistols http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_dc_1.jpg What's left to do: Finnished! Hrathnar Flintfang
Well, while my main emphesis is on Irish Culture (For which I am writing both a Chapter history/datasheets and an actual novel that will probably never get considered for publication) I do know a bit about Scottish history, and can look up more quickly, if you can tell me the specific time periods you are looking to replicate along with some of hte special rules or othersuch you intend to nab I could probably help you fluff it up a bit if you like. Night Runner
Interesting fluff. Ultramarines who are SW wannabees. That's not hard to believe at all. Deep down they all want to be like us! They're just so entrenched in self-denial they won't admit it  . I also like the grey shade you have used. The painting is neat. Down here we say that a neat figure is the basis of a good figure (but in Maltese of coarse). Neth_Oni
@ Hrathnar Flintfang. I'm glad to see such helpfull people  can't really say it's any scottish theme on these though, rather an unorthodox mix of my own forefathers (the Swedish wikings) and one of their many trade partners, the russians. Even their nickname is very russian, the "Big red" ^^ And these don't really care if it's ale, mead or simply booze. For as long as they can have a feast before, after and at some degree during battle they will be happy :) @Night Runner. Thanks, I feel I've quite messed up the painting but at least the slightly unique grey color I've managed is something I too like :) And how do you say that (or spell it) in Maltese? Allways nice to know the original and not just the translated version ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/#findComment-2112343 Share on other sites

Neth_Oni
nice, thanks B) I have had my first game with the above army list. Fortunate for me, the lack of anti-tank weapons was not as bad as it could be since I fought Tyranids this time. It was awfully even in the start of the game and he managed to get all 3 of his genestealer units in the right flank. But in the end I won, since he couldn't deal with the venerable dread or the terminators! I was thinking that I will definitly be last in the coming tournament but after this massacre victory vs a rather skilled player I can see a little speck of light ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/#findComment-2112465 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
so, finally two more models ready for the tournament. They aren't entirely finnished, but they are good enough to play with wich is all I strive for atm. The regular dreadnought: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_dc_42.jpg His name is Arn The Rhino: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_dc_71.jpg ..and this one is Ajax ^^ Have had my opportunity to look through the new codex now and I must say, wow. There's a lot of options all over, and I want most of them :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/#findComment-2122737 Share on other sites
Greyhunter77
Everyone seems to want everything from the new Dex :D The models look good (Personally I can't see where you've messed up) I wish my wolves were half as neat. Great work on the fluff as well it really gives them character. Neth_Oni
Greyhunter77: Thanks. ^_^ I'll be sure to check out your wolves, I doubt they are any worse than mine though ^^ Grey Mage: It's a slightly oversized beret, sovjet style ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/#findComment-2122892 Share on other sites
Wolf Guard Dan
Well done. I like the color scheme on armor and highlights look nice. I'll admit, I like to color my shoulderpads rather than leave them grey to add a bit of color/break up all the grey, but your stuff looks real good despite my own preferences. Neth_Oni
I was actually thinking of going back sometime, probably after the tournament, and redo the shoulder pads. Because, as you say, it would be a little break from all the grey. I wonder wich color would suit them best though, black, red or yellow? Neth_Oni
allright, now I have "finnished" the Runepriest and the two from squad B. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_dc_21.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_dc_91.jpg And I aslo took a few pics when I was playing vs. a friends super cool Kroot merc list. Unfortunatly, most pics are unusable and even these ones are out of focus :D But at least you can see a little ;) http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_matches_1.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_matches_2.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/bigred_matches_3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/178007-the-red-fangs/#findComment-2124848 Share on other sites
