Overhaul

CosmicCreations

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I know I havent posted anything on any of my other threads for a while, dont worry they are coming along slowly.

In the mean time I decided to do a complete overhaul of some of my old figures.

I had a small Ultra army comprised of Two Dreadnoughts (one a ven), 2 Tactical squads, 2 terminator squads, an Assault squad and a predator

It was my first army attempt and it was rather badly painted, by far not my best. So I bought some nail varnish remover today and got to work

I'll post some pictures tonight but its going smoothly so far, if a little messy!

Right been stripping the paint today and yesterday and managed to get them all done.

Unfortunately there are still some little stains and some bits of paint I just cant get off but they wont be too much of a problem if I scrape them off.

Does anyone know of a way to get rid of PVA glue? its on the bases with the sand and the nail varnish remover only tackles the paint but isnt strong enough to clean the bases, it would be a big help :tu:

Also heres My idea for a new colourscheme

What do you think? I was going to go for Blood Ravens to fit in with all my other figures but I quite like all the red and gold on my Vanguard Vet so was trying to go for that

Firstly, you are lucky not to have destroyed your plastic minis with the nail varnish remover as it tends melt plastic.

Secondly, I use fairy power spray for my all my mini stripping needs. It does not harm the plastic at all. It also has served me well in stripping bases too. PVA and sand gone as if they were never there.

Not really luck, I read up on some articles on here and decided to go with the seemingly favourite of Acetone Free Remover, I tested it a few months back and it works fine, I give them a good rinse with water once they have been stripped to get rid of any remover incase something does happen! I only get some cheap bottles of superdrugs own anyway, it gets the job done :P, and thanks i'll try power spray tomorrow :)

For stripping I use Simple Green and it pretty much disolves PVA glue but doesn't really harm anything else.

Anyway the new scheme looks really cool, especially the glowing eyes deffinitely don't change those. The Thunder Hammer doesn't look bad either.

My only critique would be to change the color of the "Purity Seals" wax seals. Red on red makes them kind of hard to make out, you could try green or purple or something that would contrast a bit more and make them easier to spot.

I love what you've done, I think the red looks very deep and its cleanly painted. I have 2 comments:

1. Is the model becoming too red? The terminator could have a shield other than red, the shoulder shield could be a different color, IMO. The thunderhammer grip could be a reddish brown or burnish brown, or go the other direction and compliment the gold with a snake bite leather grip.

2. Could the wax on the purity seals could be a different color? There are blue and green purity seals as well, even yellow. That way they stand out on the armor.

Your painting skill are good so I thought I'd get you to maybe look at a few other options.

not sure i'm a fan of the terminators butt-cod-piece but everything else is pure ace <_<

i do agree about the overdose of red and think that green purity seals (i use catachan green followed by a mix of shadow grey with bleached bone) can look sexy and that some brown would not be amiss either :).

Thanks for the ideas guys, I have made a few changes to the purity seals and the hammer handle.

But i've been busy working on my new dread so here he is, still a WIP
